86 Lawn Boy Suburban

Hi, Ive got a question. I acquired an older lawn boy and was wondering about the fuel mix. I always add about 2 extra ounces of oil to the gallon of gas I mix up for it. I don't know if this would affect how it runs, but when starting and after its been running for a while its sounds like its running lean. It runs fine, smokes a little but that is normal for a two stroke. My only idea is that its fouling out the spark plug. The other day when it finally ran out of gas, right before it did it starting running faster and sounded better. My thought behind this is that there was more gas than oil left in the tank and it was getting more fuel, allowing it to run better. Feel free to post comments. Thanks!

Lawnboys use a 32-1 ratio when you add 2 extra ounces of oil to a gallon you are running 24-1 Of course you are going to foul the plug you are doubling the fuel ratio.they all run faster when they start to run out of gas.I think it has to do with the engine taking in more air.I too have the surburban and really its not my favorite one.Mine smokes excessively due to a junk carb the previous owner put on.The push and go self propel system is a mechanical nightmare The handle is as long as the mower itself.Oh yeah and its heavy

Math was never my strong suit in school (I was always checking out the pretty girls in my class,,,lol), but if he's ADDING 2 extra oz, he running that Lawnboy at about 25:1 not 64:1. He's running about 50:1 if he was adding 2 oz., less. The jury is out on the oil to gas ratio. Guys think running synthetic can run as lean as 100:1, but then they start replacing bearings. I ran across a Googled article where a guy took a 2 stroke ATV engine and tested different oil ratios, he found about 25:1 produced the most horsepower. I guess at that ratio you'd have to clean the carbon deposits out more often.

what was I thinking duh?yes 6oz of oil to one gallon of fuel is 24 to one.I once put a 16-1 ratio mix I had for my bricktop into a 32-1 d motor by mistake and it ran but not very good.Had to clean the carb out to get it back to normal Thank you for clearing up my poor math skills when I work on anything I alwys remember this simple rule my friend told me who worked at the GM plant.Somebody dumber than you put it together but somebody smarter than you designed it.

4oz per gallon is 16-1 ratio its been a long winter and my brain is still thawing out not good to run such a rich mixture in a 32-1 motor Just picked up another school bus this weekend.what a tub but its in nice shape and could not turn it down for a dollar.got another duraforce I believe its a 10323 last night its been sitting for awhile but I will get to it this weekend.

Yeah, I was going to say, 64-1 sounded wrong, but thanks for the feedback. I just do it to be safe, I don't want the motor to seize up or worse. But yes, I will start using the correct fuel mixture/ratio. Thanks'
