I took my father in law's 7251 apart today. He told me that he knew it had a broken rod, but was unsure how it happened, as he put it away and the next time he went to start it up, there was no resistance on the pull cord (save the spring). I don't know who came and ran it while he was away:thumbsup:, but they couldn't have missed this happening.

I am curious if anyone knows of anywhere I can get the parts necessary to bring this thing back to life

That's a 1962 Lawn-Boy model 7251, right? Please post some pictures of the whole mower if possible.

I don't know what to say about the parts you need... except look around in your area for old mowers. My impression is that there were many of these mowers sold in states like Minnesota back in the 1960s so you have some chance of finding a "donor" so you can cross parts. It's a C-series engine.

If you decide not to try to fix it, the parts that you have should be worth something on eBay.

Judging from the photos, you need an entire engine. The piston is scored, which means the cylinder too is scored, the rod is broken which means that more than likely your crank shaft is scored, and no telling what other damage there is within the crankcase. There is not much left to salvage.

Yes, it is a Lawn Boy 7251 with a C-18 engine. Yes, the piston, cylinder and crank are all scored, though the crank shaft is not bad. Could the crank not not be machined?

Anyway, a new motor is probably the best option...will anything else fit the mounts?

welcome, fellow minnesotain, looking at your problem there. i would agree with the one on replacing the engine. you might find the same engine in some of the salvage yards located around you some people get rid of the mower becuase it is not new looking, but needs only minor work to keep going.
