Hi there, I have a Craftsman mower with a briggs & Stratton Motor I think. It turns off after about 1-2 minutes. There is a spring and another metal "thing/arm" connected to the "throttle body" (the part that turns to let more air in the carb). The metal rod/arm/thing wants to push the throttle wide open after like 1-2 minutes. What gives? What is that part doing and why is it pushing full throttle?

Thanks for the help,

you may have an air leak somewhere, try cleaning the carburetor, push the tab that the spring is on in the very front of the mower back a little bit to slow down the idle.

The spring you are talking about is the governor control spring. It is supposed to open the throttle when the engine calls for more power. When you start the engine the governor control arm will pull against the spring closing the throttle until the spring pressure equals the pressure on the control arm allowing the engine to run at a coonstant speed. Everything is hooked up properly. I suggest that you need to rebuild the carb to solve your problems.
