5216h slow forward

my neighbor gave me a simplicity 5216h that had been sitting for years,he said it was slow to mow with....I rebuilt the carb,put one idler pulley on the deck,and it runs great...the transaxle pulls strong,doesnt slip but its slow in forward,little faster in reverse....is there a way to adjust the speed on this thing,pretty nice mower....thanks

I'll bet it is one of two things. Either the belt is worn or hard, or your idler pulley or arm are tight. Check both.
