Circa 2004, Bought a Troy-Bilt 4 cycle (we think lawnmower ought to come next; but, unfortunately not) string ding a ling trimmer at Lowes, along with the edger attachment, for the bargain basement price of just under $280.00 We soon learned what 4 cycle meant: it is guaranteed to hold out as long as 4 trimming cycles. After that, the c clutch falls off, and your on your own, buddy; and, thanks a lot for nuttin.
We sent an e-mail off to MTD- Y'all know the rest of the story.
They wanted fifty bucks for the new clutch- screw them- they're not getting any more money. We bent the springs back in to the best of our ability slapped the junk back together, and, to this day, one must be wearing gloves while starting, because the kickback will rip one's fingers off.
