New to the forum so hello and thanks in advance for any suggestions or help you can offer.

Model 917276390 18hp with 42"deck. Serial 0920050005532 and assume it was built for 2006 model year ? Anyhow, the sticker under the hood specifies deck belt 144959 (1/2 x 95 1/2) but this belt is entirely too short. The blades stay engaged and the movable idler pulley is so tight it won't move enough to disengage the mandrel brakes.

After doing some searching I've found deck belt 197253 (1/2 x 100 1/2) that fits 2006 Craftsman with dual idler pulleys (which I have.) Is anyone familiar with this situation? Could this machine require a different belt than the one Craftsman specified on their sticker under the hood? All pulleys, guides and guards appear to be original and the routing is proper. Kinda stumped here....

you just answered your own question.....if the blade brakes are still on ...then the belt will never fit....i think i talked to you on another thread...try and loosen the engagement pulley [pb blaster penetrating oil is best]..so that the belt fits and the lever works smoothly ....get back if you have problems
