Not sure how to diagnose. Charging light is on on the dash showing a reading of 10V. Tested with multi meter at the battery 10.6.

Original battery (6years old) failed a month ago. Replaced with proper series battery and was working fine for last 4 weeks. Now charging light back on.

Anyone have a good trouble shooting step by step?

thanks,

Jim

Do you have a volt meter? If you do, start the engine and run it at 3/4 throttle. Place the threads on the battery terminals and take a reading. 13.2-15 V means that the battery is charging properly. 12-13.2 V means bad battery or charging system. Below 12V or below means no charging.

Hi,

Yes, I tested that and it is reading just over 10 volts. I'm charging the battery now and it seems to be taking a charge so I'm ruling that out. Just wondering where to stsrt checking from the motor out. The intek 26 actually has 4 leads coming out from the flywheel. A red, black, green, and perhaps grey or blue(faded).

I assume again that the red and black are for the AC and DC voltage, but also have other 2.

Thanks,
jim

Maybe this will help you understand what to do. It was sent to me by a friend who has helped me out in the past and understands electrical problems more than I do.

NOTE:Indicator light will remain on if battery
voltage is below 12 volts.
1. Check indicator light wiring.
a. If wiring is grounded, light will remain on when
engine is running.
b. If wiring is OK, replace regulator-rectifier.

9 times out of 10, if the wiring is in tact, it is your voltage regulator/rectifier
