This 21Hp Briggs V Twin tractor will run great for about 20 or 30 minutes then it stops getting gas, I can take the carburator side of the gas line loose from the fuel pump and crank it until gas shoots, replace the line and it will start and run again maybe another 5 minutes then quits again, what is wrong with thing, one repairman said it might be vapor locking but it don't seem to be to warm, got me stumpted. Thanks for any help
Do you have a clear inline fuel filter in the line between the pump and carb. If you did you could tell if you have fuel going from the pump to the carb. We need to verify if the pump is working under load or if the needle valve in the carb is not opening properly. One thing you could try is hooking up a gravity feed system and clamp off the fuel pump. If your engine runs for a longer period of time after it stops we should be able to make a better diagnosis.
The model # is 446777, Type 0246 E1, the filter is before the fuel pump and I can't tell if the gas changes any at all in the filter, when I unhook the line from the pump on the carburator side a little gas runs out of the line, I took the bottom of the carburator off and the needle works up and down as you turn the switch on and off, the motor runs real smooth, and then it just acts like it starts staving for gas, I turn the choke on and it smooths back out for just a minute then it stops, like I said I take the line loose on the carburator side and crank it and the gas is pumping, I hook it back up and it will start back up, but it won't run for long, this thing started this a couple of years ago, but only done it maybe two or three times and had been doing pretty good, untill last year and it just gets worse.
I would think it has to do with the pump, but before replacing try this. Remove the fuel lines and make sure that they are clean and open. Also, make sure that there is no obstruction at the fuel outlet in the tank.
