Take a look at your governor, may be a simple adjustment.

I have seen a couple governor arms slip on the governor shaft this year alone. So will double check static governor adjustment.

In that manual? One can assume it is an old L-Head I guess, but he has a Twin something or other. If it is an Intek or Vanguard, it might take one of those manuals. But either way, they normally don't just fly way out of adjustment.

Nor a "repair" guy.........
So in what scenario would an engine just go wildly crazy on r.p.m.s, and an "adjustment" actually do
anything helpful?
It is always helpful knowing what engine the original poster has, to give any decent advice at all....
But I was never a "teacher".......... Just someone that actually fixed stuff......
