Tried to see reviews on this model .. no luck or expired. This one was used once.. $850. I have a 1998 JX75. … had since new ..still going semi strong… new blade clutch, cables etc… rear brass bearings not so good- tranny so so. Is this a good replacement? Should I look for a cheaper alternative?

Honda makes a great self-propelled mower. Honda got out of gas push and self-propelled mower business 2 plus years ago, so this mower is new old stock.

$850 is a lot for a mower that had only had a MSRP of $1099.Some retailers in Europe still show them for sale new at USD $699. I don't think I would pay $850 for one that had been used. A couple US sellers still list them new at $1000, so $150 off for used doesn't seem like much. Many retailers work on margins that are 20% to 40%, meaning that if I own a big store and sell something for $1000, I am paying maybe $700 - $750 for it. I'd offer $700. The warranty won't be any good based off a private sale.

I read somewhere about a cam issue? Any thoughts about this concern and what mower models are effected?

since covid all bets on everything are off. The people who knew what they were doing retired, or semi retired, DEI took over, wages went sky high as people refused to work, and now many companies have lots of problems with failures. I was listening to a pod cast today how several of the larger automotive companies have traced their bearing failures back to dirty engine blocks and swarf etc., left in the blocks when they were assembled. That kind of crap is affecting everything. Add to it the attempt to change over to less costly materials etc., and who knows what one will get.
