I have an issue involving the “bypass rod” feature with my 2015 Ariens 42” lawn tractor. The specifics of the lawn tractor are as follows: S.N. 011515D025249, Model #936083 (960460061-00. I believe the transmission in this model is a General Transmission #580486201. I got this tractor in late fall, 2024, and have no other real history of it. As far, as I know, the tractor moves forward and in reverse under its own power without any trouble.
The exact problem that I am having is as follows: In order to push the tractor around in my garage, I have to depress the brake pedal while simultaneously pulling out the “bypass rod”. The “bypass rod” will not freely come out and allow the tractor to be moved, without simultaneously depressing the brake pedal and pulling out the “bypass rod”. It is quite the balancing act to do this. According to the manual, you are suppose to be able to pull out the “bypass rod” to be able to move the tractor freely, and then, when you depress the brake pedal, it is suppose to return to the locked transmission mode. After performing this balancing act and moving the tractor, I can apply the brake pedal and the “bypass rod” will release and the lawn tractor is locked up again (ie. Returned to its normal operating state). Thank you in advance for any advice or information related to my problem.
