2005 Scag Turf Tiger 52" 27 hp Kohler Is buying used the way to go???

In the market for a zero turn and everywhere ive looked ive been referred to Scags for their quality and durability. Ive been dealing with a Cub Cadet LT1045 that has just over 400 hours and has been a nightmare basically since it was new. Im wondering if a Scag TT with a 27 Kohler is a good mower to buy used. Just over 300 hours which is very low for being almost 10 years old, with a price tag of $6500. It seems like a lot of money for a mower that age but with the low hours I think it should be worth it? It seems like a lot more people lean towards the Kawasaki engines but Im not sure why because both seem to have minor issues like anything else. Is there any reason I should avoid the Kohler Command Pro 27hp? Also, are the decks the same gauge steel as far as thickness goes between the 52 and 61 inch cuts in 2005? Thanks

I would get him down on the price a little. If you have pics post them. Everyone has there opinions on engines. The Kohler command is a good motor. Cheap parts verse buying parts for a Kawasaki. I would offer the guy like 5000. The decks should be the same gauge. Does it have the velocity deck?

I would be buying it from a dealer so I don't think that I would be able to talk them down that much. Im not really sure how to tell what deck it has it doesn't have a decal on it anymore. Here are pics, it looks to be in great shape. The only thing that bothers me is that they got this on a trade last fall and they still have it. Every other used Scag this dealer has gotten in on a trade has sold within a week or two. Could it be just because people buying a machine like this usually want the bigger 61" cut or was there issues with the 2005 TT 52" 27hp Kohler model? Any input would be greatly appreciated I'm just trying to get an unbiased opinion which you cant always get talking at the dealership.

It's got a wide track. There's not much of a trimming edge. It does look like it's in great shape. Its missing a rops. I would tell the dealer 6000 and that's it. I believe it has the velocity deck. It would cut great. I'd buy it if I needed a mower. Low hours. Looks new. Kohler's are good engines. Cheap parts if it breaks. Check spindle play. Check drive pumps. Check for leaks.

Clpolcar has the right idea try and get this guy to go lower. He probably low balled a guy on the trade in and got it for 4800 or so. I would say 5500 and try and meet somewhere in between. The dealer has wiggle room trust me especially if he has had the unit this long. 300 hours is very low so I'm curious if the hour meter was replaced but the very nice pics make me think not. I would definitely think about getting this mower for sure.

Also the command series is a very nice engine IMO. A buddy has had his command for a long time and it seems to work great. That is truly a commercial engine. Remember Scag is considered number 1 by many for a reason. They wouldn't put junk engines on their mowers. They still sell many Kohler engine options to this day on their mowers.
