Sorry if the title's a bit vague but I'm having some very strange issues I've never run into before, cub hasnt been started in probably 6 months or so and last time it was we were having problems with the starter not working so I replaced the starter with a brand new one but it still doesn't work. When I turn the key nothing happens. I tried to bypass the solenoid with a screwdriver just to get it to turn over so I knew the starter worked but when I do the starter only spins it doesn't actually engage and turn the engine over, any ideas? Thanks.

Weak battery not putting out enough amps to spin fast enough to engage, or possible the battery is connected backwards.
