I always use 2 stroke gas on my weed eater and blower yet both won't start without the air filter being removed and the choke set half way and if I fully open choke it dies out and if I let go of throttle it dies out also any help please
How long has it been since they were running ? Just for starters I would remove the adjusting screws one at a time paying close attention to # of turns open. Screw all the way in GENTLY while counting # of turns till you bottom out. Then remove and spray some good carb cleaner thru a couple of times, then put screws back to where they were set. Do both screws. If this does not get you going then your carb will need to come off for a good cleaning. Hope it runs for you, its very frustrating when they dont co-operate.
@Andy Spencer I run both every other week and I clean the carburator once a month both have the same carburator and I only find one adjusting screw as you can see in the picture also only the black thing and around it is dirty the rest of it is clean
Its hard to tell from the picture but that does not look like the fuel/air adjusting screw to me. Should be over on the side. What brand equipment is it on?
Both are echo the weed eater is an SRM 225 and the backpack blower is one of the residential use model not sure which one since I'm not home right now I can't tell

A cleaning alone probably will not fix your problem. If it's starving for gas a needle adjustment may suffice, but you probably have a diaphragm in the carb that is no longer pliable and needs to be replaced. Pay attention to how the diaphragms and gaskets come out. It will definitely not run properly if they are out of order.

You also need to chk for air leaks, wiggle the carb to see if it's loose,if it is remove carb and tighten carb insulater, also see if cyl is loose, and make sure cyl screws are snug. Fuel line and fuel filter can also be a source of air leaks, get a can of carb cleaner and spray around the mating surfaces while running, if you have an air leak engine will change tempo. Also chk/clean spark arrestor, go ahead and remove muffler and make sure that exhaust port is free of carbon. The thing about 2 strokes is everything has to be perfect or they won't run or won't run right.:wink:

Ok from the post it's echo equipment. First disconnect the spark plug and remove the I think it's five screws keeping the cover of the engine and remove the cover. On the side of the muffler you will see three or five small screws holding a plate, remove those and there should be a screen underneath that and clean it with a wire brush and reassemble. That is the spark arrestor screen and if it is full of carbon the machine will do exactly what your describing. the same type of screen on most all two and four stoke equipment and it's something that everybody over looks. Keep that screen clean and it should run.
