1998 Troy Bilt hydrostatic drive - blades barely turn

Hi there! We've bought a 2nd-hand riding mower with 42-inch deck. The deck belt broke on our 2nd use, so we replaced it with an OEM belt. Now the blades barely turn on any setting other than the top one. Any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks!

It is probably your belt routing. Post the tractor model numbers and I will try to find a diagram.
