Hi all,

Still working on the "93. It looks great with new paint, but I have a problem with the governor set-up:rolleyes:
Put governor spring, retaining collar, air vane etc. back together according to service manual. Got the governor spring hooked in the end of the throttle lever, but can't get motor past 2500 rpm or so, on fast. I turned collar to the right more than a few clicks, moved the throttle lever, and the governor spring had come out of the end of the throttle lever.
I must be doing something wrong, but I have no idea what it is. Carb is squeaky clean, removed welch plugs, and cleaned passages, plugs back in and sealed tight.
I'm thinking but no ideas coming to mind.
I've done lots of weed eaters, mowers, etc, but this just has me flummoxed.
All ideas welcome. A clear picture or diagram would help a lot.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the response. The numbers are in another post I didn't refer back to, I apologize
Lawnboy 10201 SN# 3908961. It's a 2 cycle with a Walbro LMR-16 carb.
Took the carb back off tonight, and put the governor spring back in the end of the throttle lever, I'm good at this!!!!!!!!!
I'm relatively sure the spring is in the correct place as the spring stays connected to the throttle lever when moving lever left to right.
But with the whole carb/filter box affair sitting on the bench, it now occurs to me hi speed is with the throttle lever just lifted away from the start position???, and slow is the throttle lever pulled all the way back towards the operator??
If so, this would explain how I pulled the governor spring out of the lever, I tried to adjust the governor for hi speed, when the throttle was the slow speed setting.

Your ideas and all others welcome.

Thanks,

Jim

Good morning,

Got it back together this morning, starts right up, but the governor spring comes out of the throttle lever"F".
So, two things, why does it keep coming off, and what is the correct direction to turn the governor adjusting collar to increase rpm, clockwise or counterclockwise?
I know you lawnboy guys gotta know the answer to this.

Thanks,

Jim

Good morning,

Got it all figured out, mower now runs like a champ.
Each time I put the carb and air box together, I pre-loaded the governor by turning the adjustment collar 4 clicks clockwise. When the engine was started, the force of the air vane would pull the governor spring out of the throttle lever. Clockwise is the direction to turn it to increase engine speed.

But.....

The collar needed to be adjusted 4 clicks counter-clockwise to properly pre-load the governor. Now the spring stays in the throttle lever and I have proper throttle operation :smile::smile:
This was a very interesting project, I'm glad it's done.

Thanks to all for the help,

Jim
