1986 John Deere 160 deck spring help

Hi i acquired a 1986 John Deere 160 Tractor that was in pieces i have put it all back together except i have a spring that was hanging from the deck mower and i am not sure where and what this spring controls any ideas ?

If you're talking about that L-shaped bracket, that is the lift assist spring bracket. A spring hooks into the hole in the bracket and then connects to a hook on the pedal linkage. This makes it easier to lift the deck.

Sorry for the delay. The circled area shows where the spring attaches. Lower your deck all the way down, connect the spring, then grab the L-shaped bracket with a pair of pliers and rotate it 90 degrees counterclockwise until the bracket is in the 3 oclock position as in the 2nd pic.
