I have a 1983 briggs and stratton 11hp engine Model #252707 Code #83051211 Type 0645-01. I have had it vapor locked before on me and got it broke free and running. This time it is running a lot rougher and over heating with lots of white smoke coming from just abou everywhere. I have heard it is probably time for some new piston rings, just wanted some thoughts on that.

"Vapor lock" is a fuel system problem. Your problem sounds different. Is it burning oil? Usually burning oil gives off a blue smoke. You might be running it too lean which would make it over heat. When you said "it broke free and is running" tells me that the engine seized up at one time. You might have scored the cylinder, crank, and rod depending if the piston seized, or the lower end seized. If it was the piston, you might need to bore the cylinder and get oversize piston & rings. If it was the low end that seized, you "might" need to get the crank turned and get an under size rod. If that's the case, your crank might still be OK because the rod is aluminum and softer than the hard crank. Either way you still need to tear it down and see how everything looks.
