I have 2005 Caraftsman riding mower with Intek 18 hp OHV B&S engine.
Engine surges when it starts, then evens up and runs fine.
Cleaning carb didn't do much. None, really.
I have all intentions to replace carb, they are not expensive but here's the problem. Can't find direct match.
697203 is stamped on carb.
Sears says it's gasket part number. Sears suggested their 594593 as direct replacement. It looks a little bit different, like does not have mix adjustment screw same way mine does.

Fuel line is different, but that's not a major issue.
Searching for 697203 normally gives carbs that look quite different and I already return one.
Mower model is 917275391

Suggestions?

Thank you

Sounds like it is running a little lean when it starts. Check for air leaks by spraying carb cleaner or starting fluid around gasket areas. IF no change in running, open up the adjustment screw you mention 1/8 - 1/4 turn, no change, think about drilling low speed jet a couple of wire gages larger. I would not buy a new carb on account of symptoms you describe.

Ok, so no change when hit with brake cleaner. Adjustment screw produces no difference, but it can be turned only hlaf full turn anyway.
Which one is the low speed jet?
