This may be a little off subject for lawn mowers but same principle... I recently bought a Lincoln Weldanpower Welder that had a 16 HP Briggs and Stratton Engine on it that is blown up and missing parts... I have a 18 HP B&S that is off of a craftsman garden tractor and it very very close to the same engine besides the crank...

MY QUESTION IS::: will the 16 HP B&S crank fit in the 18 HP B&S without too many issues???
Both engines are horizontal shaft/crank engines. I have dissasembled both engines and it looks like it will work but the 16 hp has an oil filter and pump built into it and the 18 HP has a oil splasher bolted on the rod cap of one rod...:frown: if i use the crank and rods from the 16 hp and bolt the splasher on the rod cap will it cause the crank and rods to be unbalanced...
Please let me know if there is any extra info needed...
Anybody have any experince doing this???
Thanks!
Mike

Go to the Briggs & Stratton website with both engine model numbers and compare.

I cannot find a model number on the 16hp engine.
It is missing so many parts all that is there on the outside is the block and flywheel...
Heads, shroud, intake, exhaust is all gone...
Where on the block would the model number be?
The aluminum is very corroded, I'll take a brass brush to it and see if I can find it!

Thanks,
Mike

Look on the valve cover(s). The numbers may be stamped on them.

If you have no luck, it will also qualify for a boat anchor.......
