Engine will start cold and run a few seconds then starts to miss, then dies and will not re start. If you pull the fuel line of the carb. it will start and run fine until it burns all the fuel in the bowl. Will not run with fuel line attached. Fuel pump is pushing plenty of fuel through hose. Tried attaching a gravity feed tank to it and it runs fine. Can the fuel pump be pushing to much fuel into the carb. and flooding the engine?

If the float valve isn't sealing it would flood the engine.

If the float valve wasn't sealing why would it run with the gravity feed tank and not with the fuel pump?

The fuel pump creates more pressure than the gravity feed system does. There for awhile there was a different needle valve for gravity feed as compared to pump feed.

Makes sense. Thanks for your help.

No, you have something else going on.

When you pull off the fuel line, how long does the engine run before it dies?

Probably 30 seconds or so.

How much fuel pumps out in this amount of time?

Good bit pulsing stream the whole time.

Would it fill a 6 oz. jar??? Or more?
I only ask, hese things because I think you have something else happening here.

If the "pump" was putting out too much pressure, it would be very obvious... Can you post the tractor's model numbers as well?
