I have a 16hp Briggs and Stratton vertical shaft in my riding mower. When I start it, the engine pops and jumps around (it sounds like its cammed or something). Engine will not run with the air filter on, it dies instantly. Even if I put the airbox on (without the filter) it dies instantly. It's blowing cold air right out of the intake, but its blowing hot air out of the exhaust too. It has good spark, good compression, and fuel (although maybe not tuned). Timing issue? Also, one push rod is aluminum and one is steel, I put them with the wrong valve maybe? Please help, engine number is 28u707 1174-E1 -Also worth noting that I am 16 and just rebuilt the head and replaced the piston without knowing anything about valve clearance or whatever else would affect this.
