15hp Kholer Comand fuel pump on JD vs gravity feed on other applications.

I have an original 15 hp kholer from my JD. the motor was replaced with a 15hp kholer from a craftsman mower. My question; Sense the JD runs a mechanical fuel pump the engine block has a cut away for the mounting of the fuel pump.

The Craftsman engine does not and the aluminum is cast over where the fuel pump would mount. If I cut/grind out the aluminum and tap the holes for the mounting screws, is the cam or what ever runs the fuel pump going to be there to drive the pump?

I do not want to do exploritior surgery, and find there is no drive for the fuel pump.

Thanks in advance

The easiest thing to do would be to put one of those small electric 'rattler' fuel pumps on the machine. The do not draw much current and can be obtained online or at your local auto parts store. This is by far the simplest and easiest solution to implement if you can do the minimal electrical wiring required.

The next easiest thing would be to fit one of those crankcase-pulse-powered diaphragm fuel pumps that are used on B&S Vanguard engines as well as on many lawn tractor engines. You will have to modify the valve cover or tap into the crankcase vent system in order to do this. Find an engine so equipped and study how it is set up if you choose this option.

Maybe somebody else knows if there is a lobe in there to run the mechanical pump, but you're going to have to disassemble the engine (pull bottom cover) in order to ensure that all of the metal cuttings are cleaned out if you do what you are suggesting.

I agree, an electric pump would be easiest, I'll look into that this weekend.

Thanks for your suggestions.
