I posted this in another area but found this thread so I've got a 14.5 briggs ohv motor that I'm swapping out of my Murray mower with the 12.5 motor. The 14.5 motor has set for a while so I cleaned the plug and such but when I cranked it the motor was sluggish and would cycle but seemed to go then get stuck I could help it along but it would do the same thing so I took plug back out and cranked it and it cycled great but with plug back in it was sluggish I've read on here that it could be the valve spacing? The rocker arms both cycled good when I took the valve cover off so I know their at least not stuck any help would be great thanks

Sounds like its either valve clearance are to wide or the decompressor has failed on the cam shaft.
Google Briggs and stratton valve service.
