Engine will start fine ...sometimes. Other times the flywheel wants to kick back on the starter. Makes an awful bang. Starter teeth, flywheel teeth good.Never run into this before.Am wondering if the starter bendix(?) is just worn and sticking? Any thought would be appreciated.

Check the flywheel keyway, sounds like it may be sheared, also, when did you last adjust your valves ..??
 
thanks. Two things I was going to check today. Figured that might be the problem but just asking ....just in case .
