Are the Points gapped correctly?
If so more than likely your coil is bad.
Electronic conversion may be the way to unless you can get a point type coil for cheaper.
The modern pulsa-prime carb/tank is a good cheap alternative I have done it myself and it seemed to work fine the only issues are the ones that Ocean909 stated plus I would like to add that the pulsa-prime carbs do not have an idle adjustment screw so on a mower with a throttle control if you...
Everything thing looks correct
The spring you are questioning just sticks in the hole with the spoke/linkege on the throttle shaft. I'm not really sure what it's for I just know they always seem to pop out of place.
Your governor spring looks fine, but sometimes they can get stretched, however...
Yes one & a half turns out should be your initial setting to get it running to make additional adjustments.
Sometimes if it won't stay running with the initial setting you may tweek it a 1/4 turn in or out but you should never have to turn the screw all the way in to get it to run.
If the engine...
So a few questions: first off I'm not sure if I just can't remember or it was never stated
But what type of equipment is this engine powering I'm assuming it's a mower?
I apologize if it's stated already on this thread
I looked back over most of the thread but just couldn't find it.
Have you...
Sounds like a good idea except for the high tack sealant, might work on a vacu-jet but not on a pulsa-jet. Seems like it would glue the little diaphragm flaps closed and cause a whole world of trouble.
This is a list of part numbers for the carburetors used on most 3 to 3.5 (and some 4) HP briggs and stratton vertical crankshaft engines from the mid 1960's to the early mid 1990's
So first off I will list part numbers for the pulsa-jet carbs
Carburetor pump diaphragm:
391681
Carburetors:
394063...
It would be a very long reply for me to post everything I know about these carburetors but will try to post something helpful.
I'm not a professional, but I have worked on these engines with these carburetors for many years now as a hobby.
First off, the model number you posted for your engine...
Gonna try posting pictures for the second time...
looking at carb base notice left and right corners are warped down slightly from center mainly the left side.
this can cause a uneven sealing surface on the fuel tank.
Again, judging by your pictures of your carburetor I don't think you'll have a...
you can sometimes slightly bend the control lever tab that the spring hooks onto to make fine tune adjustments on these.
you could also tension the spring a little bit more by pulling the spring a little tighter and forming a new hook but this can
get messy real quick if not done carefully and...
If the throttle shaft is just a little loose it may be fine it just depends on how loose it is.
When they get badly worn the engine will start sucking air through the worn shaft/bushings and start messing up the air fuel mixture going into the engine.
There really is not a practical way to fix...
I also should ad that these pulsa-jet carburetors are pretty simple to work on.
The two main bad problems I have found with them are the throttle shaft bushings wearing out and the carb base warping.
A slight warp may or may not be a problem.
Just depends on if it's warped bad enough for the...
So here's part number info that maybe helpful to you or others reading.
Carburetor:
299448 (used on engines made before date code 83110800)
396748 (used on engines made after date code 83110800)
Carburetor diaphragm:
270026
Carburetor base gasket (carb fuel tank mating gasket) 270073
Carburetor...
Just like someone already said use a hose clamp!
I Do this on all my old mowers with throttle controls. It works very well for me and it doesn't cost much.
I don't think it's a big problem, I have ran a few engines with noticeable end play without problems.
I think it really depends on how much end play you have.
If you could give us an estimated measurement of the play that would be helpful.
Welcome to the forum.
(Still new here myself by the way lol)
I'm also 22 years old. I fix a lot of stuff most people would think is beyond repair. (I'm sure most people think I'm crazy)
Most of the comments on here are pretty good but I would remember to keep in mind that people will always have...
