Looks like half the rear bushing is gone, also to remove the impeller I have cut along tube with cutting wheel then after its off weld it back up when its on the shaft.

Valves are out of adjustment.

Replace the gas line. blow tank out from drain or gas line.

Corrosion where coil mounts ? It has to have good contact to work.

Its not going to affect coil function if you grind that corner.

Check the butterfly for throttle to be sure its not binding or loose. I have seen the screws come out of these. Just a thought.

set 3/8 bolt in carb to hold choke in correct position then tighten screws to set. Check gas pickup tube by blowing and sucking on it. (some have check valve in) or replace the tube.

valve keeper came off

Heat it up red hot then pour or hose it off immediately (back side) then tap on the part on the axle to break rust. use pb blaster . If done correctly it will crystalize and break the rust. Last resort would be to cut a slit in the hub part on the axle to relieve it then when off clean it all...

Gas cap vent is worth a look.

I believe I thought or believe that the hole in the center is for centering the sector when putting pinion gear on steering shaft. This picture with bolt will not allow it to move. Am i wrong?

Sheared key on clutch?? Set parking brake and run mower and pull pto switch and see if cluth pully is turning, if not key problem. As always be careful and not look from discharge side. left side is best.

Check the brake as it could be rusty. 1/2 nut under right side back it off alittle.

Idler bracket looks bent up causeing belt to ride on the edge. is it loose?

Cheap bolts like kohler maybe ? Running to lean so it gets overly hot.? Just a thought.

Remove the valve and chuck the end in drill and use emery paper to polish.

Valves are not set right

If you have the head off, start at top dead center with piston making sure flywheel magnets are at coil for fire and rotate in direction of run and see if valves are opening and closing when they should, tells you if cam is bad or plastic slipped on camshaft.

Replace the fuel line as it could have internal split thats closing it off.

Best I could find for a 40v is a belt made by homelite HM-563939001, I assume (after 40 pages) its the part that failed. must be belt driven like most. granted i could be wrong but it looks like the toro style push handles to drive it.

i do agree so then run the toggle thru the seat switch or engagement switch, I should have been more clear.

Wouldn't it be easier to run a toggle kill switch on the dash, if it starts and runs.? switch is ATP 193350 36.00 looks regular style

Check valve settings

Top ring has inside bevel, 2nd one sometimes square or stepped on outside faces down.

Check the valve gap also.

When one valve is closed (down) then set the up one to .005. Repeat for the other. Never had a problem. Also you mentioned alot of oil under valve cover could mean overfilled.

My thoughts also flywheel must be pulled.

Blades should be turning in the same direction not opposite. Worn blade wings or too short of blades will also cause this. High lift blades can help or weld your own extra high wings on .

Sounds like bad pressure switch, 120 would work fine but install a new pressure switch anyway.

Run kill wire from eng to toggle thats grounded on dash. Use only starter solendoid and ign switch or push button to start. simple and usable as toy.

keep in mind that briggs issued a memo on carb solenoids being bad so i always put shut off valves in fuel line to avoid filling eng with fuel.

Do you hear the clutch click if not try unplugging it then turn on. Could be shot. or pto switch is bad.

The magnets your refering to under the flywheel are for charging a battery or other use not running.

I also use the vibertach. Never had any problems.

The 2 shift fingers in transmission are bad

Don't forget to check the pulse line from the valve cover if its cracked you won't get fuel either.
