New Jacobsen 628D owner needing repair help

These machines will creep in the neutral position most times, that is what the park brake is for. You can lubricate and adjust the linkage to get it fine tuned but, the creep will always be there which I actually like when I hose the tires off. As for the arm, I'm assuming you mean the arm that...

Wife too weak, push button start gas engine-- Not interested in Electric Mower

My B&S engine on my log splitter would do the same thing ( spin like crazy and not start then start with one pull) never could figure it out , have to think that the spark is degraded when starting electric but, WHY ?

    New Turfcat T628D 4WD Owner

You will learn to love it like I did. Not too much activity here mostly because these machines are very rugged. You might want to look at my earlier posts from a few years ago regarding 4wd. These are set up to not drive the steering wheels in reverse, I found a way to defeat this and have 4wd...

Jacobsen 72" Turfcat High Tunnel Mower Deck

You need to provide more information/pictures to get to the bottom of this. At a glance those spindles look short and possibly the previous owner installed low tunnel or some other spindles .

    Briggs Outboard Carb Adjustment

I'm assuming that this exhausts through the lower unit like most outboards. If so, make sure that it is not plugged by a rodent, mud dauber, sea weed, etc. Nothing goes in if nothing gets out.

    Briggs Outboard Carb Adjustment

I would do a compression test, could be that you don't have enough vacuum . Possible stuck/bad valve or rings, etc.

    Is this a 2 or 4 cycle engine ?

    Briggs Outboard Carb Adjustment

Check to see if the tip of the idle screw is broken off and stuck in the hole. Had this happen on an Evinrude and it drove me nuts until I found it. It was impossible to get the tip out so I got another carb on FeeBay.

Does coating the underside of deck really work?

I agree that too much time spent on coatings is wasted time, and I have done most. Now all I do in fall is, pressure wash the undersides and coat it with a spray of WD40 and it's ready for spring....(y)

Mower for 6 to 7 acres

If you can find a Jacobsen Turfcat like I did from a high school sale or other establishment you will never regret it.

    Sad day

Being a fertile bed for the Covid Delta and passing it on to others is not a personal liberty but, it is personal stupidity. Like the Doctor said "if this attitude existed in the 50's we would still have polio today" Last time I looked it was the red states being knuckleheads about the vaccine.

Which would you prefer for your own mower?

I use this: But, solder is great too but, only use rosin core for electrical connections, any other flux will be acid based and can cause corrosion in the future.

2005 Dixie Chopper Silver Eagle 44" Spindle Repair Issue

Have checked Ebay for bearings ? I find a lot of obsolete stuff there, Mike.

2005 Dixie Chopper Silver Eagle 44" Spindle Repair Issue

I'm thinking that the disc is threaded and you need to buy/fabricate a spanner to enter those holes and spin it out.

John Deere X570 Cuts Grass Too Low

Have you explored using different blades? Many blades dip down at the ends. On my Jacobsen I installed Gator blades that don't dip down and changed the cut depth by 5/8" ....Mike.

Stop My Neighbor Dogs Pooping In My Yard

I also have one neighbor and his dog poops in my yard and my dog poops in his yard....so it evens out. Life's too short, my advice is to invest your worry in real problems and maybe a pooper scooper...:)

    Help. Jacobsen 1900D

I don't think that your problem is with hydraulics but, rather a safety interlock. I would look at the seat switch or other interlocks (not familiar with your unit) but, you get the drift of what I'm thinking...Mike.

    Reel vs regular deck mowers

From what I'm seeing your machine was never offered with anything but, reel mowers so there would be no direct bolt on but, if your fabrication skills are decent anything can be adapted from another machine but, rotary decks are popular and consequently not cheap. You might want to pose your...

    jacobsen parts?

This is an old thread but, to clarify I bet the above poster got the wrong part as Jacobsen uses the even more uncommon 5/8 x 18 thread on the 628 tie rods and not the 11/16 ".

    Jacobsen 628D

Check valve port plugs will only defeat all rear wheel drive(I found out). Instead I bought two new check valves on ebay for $11 each and modified them to be permanently closed. I drilled and tapped for a 10/32 thread and used 3/4" allen head screws with locking nut (screwed in to bottom plunger...

    Jacobsen 628D

I'm revisiting this topic again because it has been really wet mowing this spring and 4wd in reverse would help. I've ordered some plugs to cap off the ports when I remove the check valves from the rear motors. I'll report back when I do the swap...Mike.

Would you buy the same mower again?

I mow 2.5 acres with a Jacobsen 72" TurfCat 628D. It has 4 wheel drive and is powered by a Kubota diesel . It has been awesome for my rough uneven lawn that is often wet in spots. This was a major upgrade from my International 184 Loboy tractor with Woods 60" belly mower.

    Jacobsen durability

The lack of flow at this site seems to be a testament to the durability of the brand. My 628D awd has been chugging along from the soggy spring to the dry times now. I know that there are a lot Jacobsen products out there, so I guess, no news is good news.
