    Walker MBSSD60 - Reasonable Deal?

Unit looks good. If you can figure out the tracking you may have a winner. The other stuff is easily fixed. You could take it to a Walker dealer for a inspection / tune-up and yo will be good to go and happy with your decision... Coming off a ZT to my Walker was worthy jump for me. NO regrets.

    Walker MBSSD60 - Reasonable Deal?

That's about 80 hours per year usage.......if not for commercial use, I would give it a go. As long as it starts up easily and there is no bad rust or corrosion taking place. Without photo's or anything else to go on it's hard to tell from here.

    Leaf mulching question

Multiple passes, sometimes on different days, highest setting at first then lower settings. Homemade chute blocker is fine. The idea is to grind them up and disperse them across the turf. Mine tend to fall gradually rather than all at once so it takes a couple of weeks to get them all. Late...

Understanding Cut height Graphic on Digital Display

I had the same concern with my Conquest while I had it. I ended up carefully leveling the deck side to side and adjusting the front to back with the back 1/4" higher. Then I mowed on the highest setting and progressively lowered the deck noting the # of bars until I got the cut I wanted. There...

    I love these tractors!

I had a 2014 Broadmoor and it also took me awhile to dial it in to my mowing style and property. It cut extremely well and the stripes were pretty good most of the time. Pulling the deck off for cleaning was fairly EZ but a mower lift ( MoJack) made it even easier to scrape. Only issue I had...

John Deere Laying Off Workers in Midwest US, Opening Plant in Mexico

Moving the production to Mexico will save JD Millions........but it will not lower the selling prices a penny.

    Best for hills?

I don’t think Toro sells those in the US any longer.
  10. bkeller500

    Best for hills?

On flat ground a larger deck will require fewer passes. You might also have an easier time trimming with the extra deck space. Since JD suspends their decks you will get more deck tilting on the uneven areas.

    Best for hills?

Depending on the slope even a 4-wheel drive GT has limits. I would encourage a visit by a couple dealers and seek their advice on a local level.

What makes it a mulching mower?

Definition......Grass mulching or circular grass managementIt is a specific mowing technique that finely shreds the grass into small particles. These small particles are then blown back over the lawn and evenly distributed between the grass. In a perfect situation I would agree. In real...

What makes it a mulching mower?

I agree. And if you are only taking off an inch at a time how could any of the 1” clippings ever get recut?
  14. bkeller500

What makes it a mulching mower?

I find it difficult to fully understand how mulching works. How can a grass blade be cut and recut while it is spinning in the same direction as the mower blade tip is pushing it? How can a mower deck that is designed to lift the cut grass and keep it in suspension also distribute the final...

    Best for hills?

I’m glad you have a great experience with your Cub unit. Might be a better choice than I thought on your model. My experience is quite different.

    Cub cadet zero turn

Good point GearHead36.....and why do ZT's not have a reverse safety switch at all?? Probably some out there but I have never seen one. It's certainly a less observed safety from most ZT manufacturers. Not sure what the new Electric Battery Powered units are doing.
  17. bkeller500

    Best for hills?

The idea of differential lock is for the added traction when you need it. ZT's tend to tear up the turf when turning. Unfortunately the only steering wheel ZT that I am aware of is made by Cub, and they have a horrible build quality. I'd stick with a tractor .
  18. bkeller500

    Best for hills?

Consider a used tractor with limited slip or tractor control features that engage both rear drive wheels for added traction and tractor stability. JD 500 series, Simplicity Conquest. A ZT on slopes can be dangerous and frankly much more difficult for the operator. Have a dealer bring one out...

    Deck holding grass

I have tried fluid Film on a couple of occasions in the past but it never seems to last very long. I have scraped the deck spotless, applied multiple coats giving it overnight to dry before applying additional coats and it still comes off after 2 or 3 mowings. MowDeck had the same results. The...

I need a plug aerator that is reliable, sturdy and won't break the bank

You could rent a plugger. You also might be exposing weed seed imbedded and dormant as you aerate ( just a thought). The Agri-Fab pluggers are cheaper and if you wait and do your aeration on a wet lawn you will get good penetration, possibly adequate enough.

    Deck holding grass

A thick growth may also be a concern as a tall growth. Thick grass will slow blade speed and may be clogging the deck due to the additional amount of cuttings. I would also test a normal set of cutting blades vs hi-lift blades. I realize hi-lift blades will cause the grass to lift better but I...

    First time Buyer

I have seen too many bad reviews on Cub units. Even looking at them in a showroom I see weaknesses that turn me away. With simplicity exiting the game, that leaves JD as a better option. Looking for advice re: purchasing a reliable lawn tractor

Now that Simplicity is stopping production that leaves us with Cub, MTD, JD, Husqvarna & Kubota tractors. In the $3K range I would most likely lean toward JD but not because of the motor but because of the rest of the machine and the mowing deck. $3K spread out over 4 seasons is $750 per season...

  28. bkeller500

More aggressive tires on Zero-Turn, What tires do you run ?

3-point turns area best for a ZT same as a tractor. Any tight turns will most likely scar the turf eventually. Bar tires will certainly give you more traction going up a hill but will do very little if you travel sideways to stop any breakaways with a ZT. There are some more aggressive tire...

Zer turn or rider. Need advice and education

I normally would recommend a Simplicity tractor because their decks have a rear roller that floats along the turf and raises and lowers the deck according to the terrain but with Simplicity halting production recently that may be a big gamble. A tractor will be best for hills where a ZT will...

    Fastrak Cuts Like Garbage

Are mulching blades about the same?

not arguing here.....and I know the photo shows how it's marketed to us.......in reality it has to overcome blades that lift and cut, grass volume, an enclosed deck speed, gravity, blow out and moisture. I'm all in if it would work every time.

Are mulching blades about the same?

  34. bkeller500

Are mulching blades about the same?

it's difficult to understand how a mulching set-up actually can work properly. If you stick to the 1/3 rule and cut your grass when it's dry, would a mulched clipping decompose any quicker? How can a mulch deck be expected to lift the grass and cut it and recut it and distribute it evenly as it...

    RZT 54 deck plugging

check the owners manual if you have one but normally the front should be 1/4"-3/8" lower thena the rear. Measure at the blades not at the deck frame. Mowing at the highest setting may be fine.....as long as you are cutting grass that isn't too long and chocking the air flow. It doesn't...

    RZT 54 deck plugging

Ikon xd 52 wheels / tire upgrade

I've given some thought to a more aggressive tire for my Walker mower to replace the Turf-Saver style it came with because of a couple spots on my berm where they tend to slip. But reading post like this one I noticed some guys reported the gains by a tire with bar-type or a more aggressive...

Mulching blades that can still actually lift grass?

If you are cutting tall grass down to normal height....mulching may not be the way to go. If you are cutting by the 1/3 rule then mulching is a option. Then the question is.... will mulched grass decompose any faster than side discharged grass. As far as Fall leaf cleanup goes mulching is...

Mulching blades that can still actually lift grass?

I suppose your HOC could make a difference on the blowout of the leaves as well. My leaves are starting to fall and it's time to think about the chute blocker. I made one from some sheet aluminum I bought at HD. Two wing nuts and it's on/off!... You are right about the 3-chambers . Still I...

Mulching blades that can still actually lift grass?

I created a chute blocker for mulching leaves. No mulching blades just the OEM Simplicity blades. Mulching grass just seems a waste of effort. Most often the decks get clogged and you have to scrape them out thus the benefit of mulching is compromised. Mulching leaves is a bit more effective...

    jack kit for Ferris

I bought a MoJack hydraulic lift for my Simplicity Courier XT Zero Turn. It works quite well and allows me to scoot under to scrape the deck and change blades safely. Ryobi 80 volt zero turn

Which wheel is skidding? Are you turning too fast? Are you doing a 3-point turn? In general ZT's will create a lawn scar if you don't slow down and make a wide or 3-point turn. Spinning quickly on a 180 degree turn is going to leave a twist scar from the inside tire. Especially if the grass is...

Ferris 500s or Bad Boy Maverick, which is best for my farm?

I have a Simplicity Courier XT which is a clone of the Ferris 500 or 600 ( not exactly sure) and it is a beast. The mower runs well, is solid and EZ to maintain. The deck is EZ to level and rarely needs adjustment. Traction is good on my berm and on my culvert. I only maintain 1-acre but I...
