Be sure that the crank, cam and other bearings are still good. If not then look on Ebay or etc.

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

I have had people bring in mowers that refused to start in the spring due to too much stabilizer. So follow directions! Dry carbs tend to flood the engine in the spring. So keep doing what you have been doing.

Old 14" Toro red paddle type

Over the years the gas formulation changes and is not good for diaphragms and other rubber parts. Floats are the way, IMO. Possibly affixing a suction type carb that does not have a diaphragm will work???

**SOLVED ** ...Rider YTH21K46 won't start, won't shut down, even with new switch and new solenoid..READ

Perhaps the new switch is defective or the wiring is bad. The kill from the reverse is working so tie into that wire with another toggle or push button switch back to ground. Or get a wiring diagram for your model # and track and test each wire and component.

    I agree!

    Fuel Shut Off

I would put it after. Any debire in the tank could keep the valve from closing off completely. The filter should trap it!

CV740 27hp bogs severely under average load

The only thing I can come up with is maybe a leaky porous casting around the intake valve or the intake manifold itself. Carefully see if one cylinder is running much cooler then the other. Or use an infrared thermometer. The cool cylinder is most likely where the issue is. Reading more comments...

Briggs & Stratton 35 Classic engine, blue smoke + oil residue out of exhaust + Petrol in oil

Gray oil is from water. Maybe some was in the tank or can used to fill it. Also if left in the rain or spray.

Briggs & Stratton 35 Classic engine, blue smoke + oil residue out of exhaust + Petrol in oil

In my experience that happens with small trimmers and blowers, ect. The opposite is what I see. The engine running creates a vacuum and quits from fuel starvation.

10 Year Old Raptor Bogging Down

What about a mulching blocking plate? If used in hi grass that may cause that. Also check that the blades are not up-side-down. Sharp edge must be lowest!

Briggs & Stratton - Not Starting

Try another spark plug .Check for spark if that don't fix it.

Briggs & Stratton 35 Classic engine, blue smoke + oil residue out of exhaust + Petrol in oil

The plastic over time warps and lets too much fuel past the diaphragm and gasket. Ebay or Amazon sells those inexpensively.

What was wrong with this mower?

When I first read the problem my 1st thought was try another plug. Maybe I am a little psychic or psycho?? Then thought of other reasons. Conclusion was excessive grass build up. That has the same effect too. So. If another plug don't work it may be the cleaning that does.

Compression release and valves are correct, but compression too high?

Must be the compression release cam or bearing worn or bent. Make sure the valve actually raises b4 top dead center when turned slowly by hand.

    Craftsman Rider dies

E-15 is a 15% alcohol blend. It does bad things to rubber and some plastics. That new carb may have a now bad float needle or seat whichever is rubber. The fuel supplier may have changed their formula. Find a supplier that still has a special pump that has 100% gas. Carb may have to have new...

    Toro Zero Turn smoking

May be breather valve. Try temporarily disconnecting the breather tube. Or may be a warped head allowing oil to get sucked in.

    Cannot find oil drain plug

It is likely a flat plug with a hex socket hole. Scrape the dirt and grass off near the oil fill area. To drain the oil I usually top the mower up 90 degrees into a pan.

briggs choke cable to non electronic automatic choke swap

You mean by the throttle control being all the way past fast? The choke is usually operated by a wire coming off the speed control arm that only activates when past full throttle. You may have to get a different control plate and the right activator wire.

Briggs and Stratton 33R877 Timing Issue

Perhaps the camshaft is bent from when the rod broke. I put it in the base hole and turn it to see if it wobbles. And make sure the base hole is not cracked.

How to test B&S fuel pump?

Or small air leak in the line. Also be sure there is nothing in the tank that can float over the gas outlet blocking the flow.

    Compression issue after rebuild

Likely problem is defective decompression system. Old side valve engines had about 9 to 1 compression. OHV has much higher. Instead of putting on a stronger starter and bigger battery. Manufactures chose to add decompression schemes. Valves must be adjusted after the decompression part of the...

    Old Briggs engine bolt pattern

I have a 130902 vert. and can not find any data online for the base mounting bolt pattern. Three holes are the same as the standard push mower. The 4rth hole is somewhere between 30 and 45 degrees from center line. Another bolt pattern that I can't find is that of the Toro TNT type...

Old 14" Toro red paddle type

I am fixing up a 14" Toro snow blower because it is light weight and free. I put on a float type carb and gas shoots out of the vent hole. I know there is an extra spring on some 2 cycle floats. Has anyone had any experience in converting these older red ipaddle types to float carbs? I...

    A lawnmower/small engine repair guy

I have been repairing small engines as a small home business since 1983 due to a bad economy and being laid off back then. I have gone back into it more since being laid off in 2009 as a boat mechanic and needing to supplement my SS I had to take after unemployment benefits ran out. I found this...
