    murray riding mower

I see you've gotten a ton of replies. Let me ask a question then make a suggestion that has usually pointed me to the problem. Question: Did it ever crank? Suggestion: What happened just before it stopped? Did you do something?

Craftsman LT 4500 26HP Briggs Stratton Intek Both Pistons not moving

Firstly, I'm not familiar with type of engine on your mower. You say the valves are working. Now, if the cam lobes are above the crank, then it's possible the crank shaft broke just above the crank throw (between it and the part of the shaft that the cam lobes are located). That happened on a...

How does CCs affect blade power and torque?

Thanks for the question. I got my numbers from an online calculator. I'll admit I was a very skeptical. I did more research and found a number of sites that showed the divisor could be anywhere between 25 and 40. This makes a lot more sense to me. In the future, I'm going to stick with 40 and...

How does CCs affect blade power and torque?

Depending on the blade diameter, the most common engine CC ratings are 159 and 196 for walk behind mowers. These numbers divided by 15 gives you a rough idea of its horse power at maximum rpm. (Back in the old days, this was what was on the engines label telling you what it was rated at.) This...

    Craftsman mower starting problem

I checked the valve lash. The intake was right on at .006. The exhaust was about .012. I set it to spec, at .008. Didn't make any difference with the kickback. Does anyone when, in relation to the TDC mark on the flywheel, are the valves supposed to open and close? Jim B.

    Craftsman mower starting problem

I'm back... Thanks for the information. I finally got it to where it wants to start. There's a little tab that pivots off the head of the engine. The choke control lever causes it to push against a pin on the choke lever on the carb. That closes the choke. If that tab isn't pointing all the way...

    Craftsman mower starting problem

Thanks again for the quick reply. When I looked at the ad, I realized that wasn't the correct model number. My engine is a GCV160 LAO S3A S/N GJARA 3112113. Where did you get the chart you posted? Jim.

    Craftsman mower starting problem

    Craftsman mower starting problem

I have a Craftsmen lawnmower model 917.370601. It’s equipped with a Honda engine model GCV 160 LAO S3A NH1 with a Kehnin #G2ZC2BH24 carburetor. The only way I can get the thing started is by giving it a 1/2 sec. shot of starting fluid. After it starts, it surges for about 20 seconds and then...

    Cub Cadet i1042 help

I recently bought a used Cub Cadet i1042 mower. I'm happy with it except for how slow it is in reverse. I've been told that the reverse speed can be increased at the expense of forward speed. That wouldn't be a problem as its plenty fast enough going forward. Does anyone know where to find this...

    Repairs clutch/brake adjustment

I just purchased a Craftsman 17.5 hp 42" Shift-On-The-Go Lawn Tractor, model #13AN77SS099. I'm posting in this forum because it has MTD written all over it. The brake grabs when the peddle is pushed about half way down (just after the drive belt is released). I'd like to delay when the brake...

The new Ariens riding mowers have an ROS switch on them to allow mowing while in reverse. Can this switch be left in the override position all the time or will the engine quit when you shift into forward? Thanks, Jim
