    Murray WideBody Blown Head Gasket?

It’s doing well with the oil that’s in it. The oil that was in it was black as coal and it ran just fine. I meant I think the head gasket was good, but will do further testing to make sure the hg is not blown. It probably has slightly worn rings and it is burning a tiny bit of oil I believe.

    Murray WideBody Blown Head Gasket?

I just changed the oil a week ago with Valvoline 5w-30. The mower is old and you can tell it has been worked hard. I agree that head gasket is pretty much ruled out. It will probably burn a little and have to top off every once in a while. Not the end of the world. Thank you guys for the help.

    Murray WideBody Blown Head Gasket?

Ok, I adjusted the valves and the compression release seems to work better now and cranks over easier. It runs like a brand new one. It is way quieter and the compression is not extreme any more. I am not seeing oil leaks any more. But I am still concerned about head-gasket and/or it possibly...

    Murray WideBody Blown Head Gasket?

I think the valves are way out of adjustment (loose), but I am going to borrow a valve checking device before I touch anything. And I have read that the cam cannot release the compression if the valves are way out of spec.

    Murray WideBody Blown Head Gasket?

Engine Model Number: 287707 Type: 1272-E1 ( A Murray WideBody is a ride on mower ) The battery was brand new, and still hasn’t cranked well. I have already cleaned the body ground. I have replaced the solenoid because it would not crank at all. It cranks and starts, but it can barely get past...

    Murray WideBody Blown Head Gasket?

It runs fantastically. I do not know if the valves have been adjusted ever. It was my relative’s mower who passed away.

    Murray WideBody Blown Head Gasket?

I also forgot that it leaks a lot of oil, I had to clean a ton of it off the engine. But that could just be a valve cover gasket, which I am going to replace.

    Murray WideBody Blown Head Gasket?

I have an old Murray mower that I am repairing. It has the 14.5 hp single cylinder over head valve engine. It is very hard for the starter to turn the motor over unless the battery is fully charged. It blows a little bit of oil up the dipstick. It has a lot of compression, but it does not smoke...

Snapper Push Mower Revs Too High

I think the engine was bad. My neighbor has it now. I tried to bend the tab for the governor and mess with the carb but the engine did not change speed.

Snapper Push Mower Revs Too High

LOL, I know the spark plug is not supposed to be there. I feel as if it may be internal damage because it was ran over a lot of sticks as I was told. There are literally chunks missing out of the blade. It seems when I start it to open the carburetor slightly from the position in the picture...

Snapper Push Mower Revs Too High

Hello all. I have this Snapper push mower with the ex 550 Briggs and Stratton engine. It has the plastic carburetor. It revs way too high and sounds like it is going to blow up. I tried to adjust the governor spring tab already and it fixed nothing. The linkages all looked connected properly and...
