    Replacement battery

I found one at Walmart, 340cca for $49.99; close enough!

    Replacement battery

I'm in south Louisiana, it's pretty warm here. It has a 10 hp engine; I don't know what the original battery was, only that the 370cca always seemed to work. Is there something about the 230cca batteries that make them work in all mowers, or are they just selling cheap batteries?

    Replacement battery

I have an older Craftsman riding mower (70's vintage: 502.251220) that has a dead battery; it's label says it's a EU1R, with 300/370 CCA. Walmart (and others) sell EU1R lawn and garden batteries, but seem to be only 230 CCA. Lots of places seem to offer this battery size; is this an OK size...

    Unusual battery issue

We did the tests last night, here's what happened. Removed spark plug - Engine cranked over very well. It turned fairly fast and looked like normal turning. Repeated several times and it did the same thing each time; nothing looked unusual. Tested spark plug - It's an old plug and wet with...

    Unusual battery issue

I finally got access to this mower. Using a jumper cable, I went directly from the battery to the starter; it slowly turned. We tried again and got varying results (a little faster and then a little slower), but none were good enough. Unfortunately, I didn't have any tools with me, so...

    Unusual battery issue

Yes, I just set it there for the picture, it was bolted down before. I don't recall how I did the original reading, but you're right, that would be a no-no. I traced the wires and concluded it was a normal 12V-negative ground; not sure how I got it wrong in the first place. Good idea, that...

    Unusual battery issue

I replaced the battery with the same size (340cca), but had a strange thing happen. When starting, sometimes, the engine spins very quickly and starts right up. Most times, it struggles to turn at all and is very hard to start. I cleaned every connection point from the battery to the starter...

    Unusual battery issue

By the way, after removing the old battery, I put it on a charger to see what would happen. It pegged the meter on the charger; only left it on for a few seconds.

    Unusual battery issue

Not sure how, but I think I got it wrong. I removed the red cable connected to the (+) terminal, cleaned it up, an tested for continuity from it to the frame; nothing, no connection. Then did the same test on the black cable; dead short, as it should be. Tracing the cables, the red cable...

    Unusual battery issue

I'm working on a Craftsman 42" riding mower (917.270622). I'm trying to replace the battery. It doesn't have the original battery, so I checked some youtubes. It looks like the battery is installed with the positive connected to ground; i.e. 12Vdc-positive ground. I've never seen one setup...
