What would cause that much of a grove on just the one intake lifter and nothing on the others? Usually its a lifter eating a cam lobe not visa-versa no?

Piston rings are most likely shot. Does it smoke at all? If your not wanting to repair/rebuild, running heavier oil is about your only option to minimize oil loss.
