Removing the discharge chute- why not a locking nut?

Another form of retainer would be more expensive to purchase and install. The shaft would have to have a hole in it or threaded.

Kohler Courage 20---what beside main crank seal will quickly dump all oil from under engine?

The main seal is not that difficult to replace and is not a large expense. That's if the engine pully comes right off. No need to pull the engine off. The oil will ride down the crank and settle on the pulley. Mine would be intermittent. Couple of sheet metal screws into the seal and it...

    Help!!!! Troy-Bilt

Loosen the valve rocker and pully the push rod out. Is it bent. If not, reinsert it and holding pressure against the top, turn the engine by have and see if it goes up and down. If so, reinstall the rocker and set the valve lash at .005" just a bit after TDC. One thing to check after you get...

    Price guaging

That pic does not look like a RC12YC. It is a 5\8" diameter, that is a 3\4" plug. A RN12YC is the large plug. I buy in sets of 8 from Amazon and never had a bad one. $2-3 each.

    XT2 Engine Pulley Removal

Unbolting the engine is easy. 4 bolts then just slide the engine back. No need to disconnect anything. When reinstalling the bolts.\, you can usually see where the engine sat and the hole line up easy. If the pulleys don't fall off, this is the method I use.

    Cub Cadet with steering wheel

I agre with GearHead. If the yard is flat and few obstructions to go around, then a tractor or smaller SW ZT would be better. I have 2 Cub ZTR-S's and and a Toro SW4200 and love them all. Thank God, no repairs on any of them. 3 acres of decent sized hills. I would recommend going larger...

    Broke my mower, dang!

IF it is less than three years old call your local Lowes store. They replaced mine with a newer model one after I decided to clean the deck underside with a power washer. Blew the motor even though I let it dry for a week. I just rolled it in and carted a new one out in the box. My son gave...

    Fuel

I have watched many tests being done on the subject of ethanol and additives. My take-away is the it takes over a year for the ethanol to separate out and gel up. Most additives do nothing for that. Ethanol free gas does not gel. So, for my 4 cycle engines I use regular 87 octane gas and add...

    No start issue

Good Old Walmart. I've been using their batteries for many years and will hold up as well as ones with twice the price. $30 for a 230 amp, which is all needed for a single cylinder. I think $40 for a 275 amp. I bring it home, top off the charge and always put a battery tender when not used...

    Bad boy revolt not charging

If you're jumping it at the battery, measure the regulator voltage with the charge on. Should be same as at the battery. With the engine running and the jump still on, I'm not sure if the stator would supply enough to measure an increase from a large battery's output. Get the mower's battery...

Briggs& Stratton engine will not turn over

Jim, I'm having problems following your posts and visualizing what the issue is. You bounce back and forth with the engine 'not turning over'. That would mean it is not rotating when the key is turned. Then you state you 'have spark' or 'does not start'. This would mean that it is turning...

Mower Blows 20 amp fuse when PTO when PTO is engaged

Could you not take a wire from the battery, put it through a 20a fuse, attach it to the clutch wire through a switch to see if the fuse blows after some time? This would confirm the condition of the clutch and it's lead. You could then cut the load side of the mower's fuse holder and attach...

Charge the battery then take to auto parts store and have it checked. It may not be able to charge, or hold, a full charge. Make sure all connections are clean and tight. If you measure voltage from Batt-, or regulator ground, to chassis it should be very close to 0v with battery connected...

    Won't turn over.

Have had a few PTO switches cause this type of problem. Toggling them on\off a few times may get it to start. Check the switch with an ohm meter to verify good contact in both positions. Sounds like your in need of the schematics of the wiring and the harness. Typically, they are found in...

    Voltage while engine is running

You should consider replacing the battery. Just because it charges to 12v, doesn't mean it will have the amperage to run the starter. An internal short in the battery cells reduces the output capability, just as your load test showed. At WOT, I would expect close to 14v.

    27HP Command Pro running issues

Most cheap carb, for me, show surging problems. So, if it corrects the original issue and causes surging, at least I know what the state of the original carb is. Some time a quick ream of the main jet solves the issue. And I agree, at least you have some internal repair parts. Just use as a...

    starter howl

If you can get it to drop down, spray clean and oil the shaft of the Bendix gear. It has to move up and down freely. You have to turn the gear for it to raise. The whirring sound should be the motor\gear spinning, but not rising up to the flywheel. My 2014 machine has been doing that the...
