I was told you cannot do a compression test on these engine because of a mechanical compression release,is there a way of finding out about this and how would do a compression test?

I have a chance to pick up a newer engine and it is a FB460V ,it looks the same are the shafts different siazes on the bottom,they were both walkbehind engines. John deere. I do not have a chance to check the size of the shafts.
