We bought our tractor at an auction and my husband had to repair a few things on it but overall it was a good deal. Have you bought anything at an auction that needed work but gotten a really good deal on it?
I would like to plant some new trees next spring along the back of our yard. It's mostly sunny. What are so good varieties of flowering trees that grow well in zone 7?
I walked over to my neighbor's the other day when they were on vacation and noticed they recently put those scalloped bricks between their sidewalk and flower bed. My mulch/flower bed abuts my sidewalk. Do you have any other ideas of things you could use to put up a border?
I picked our first large tomato last night. The cherries have been coming in like crazy, but this was the first big one. Usually I try to plant tomatoes so we'll have the first big one by July 4, but this year it didn't happen.
I tend to buy the cheap shovels that Walmart has so I can dig small holes when planting. The problem I have is they rust. Is there a better brand that will not rust? And will rust on a shovel affect the plant?
We got about 5 minutes of rain last night. It was such a foreign sound as it hasn't rained in weeks. It was just enough to wet everything and make the grass perk up a "little" bit. We need a week of nothing but rain!
So I get a phone call about an hour ago. My neighbor is leaving for vacation tomorrow and was in the middle of cutting his grass when his lawnmower went kaput. He had to borrow ours to finish his yard. Murphy's Law!
There's been a bit of a dry spell in my area. My garden could really use some water. But I always feel if I water it then it will become dependent on the extra watering. Do you water your garden or let it fend for itself?
The gas cap of our push mower has a hairline fracture on it. My husband said we don't need to replace it just yet since it's small. But I'm worried about the gas leaking (eventually since it is small). Should we replace it or not worry with it until the crack gets big?
The best grass we have is in the shady areas of the lawn. It's depressing. :frown: I wish we could grow the lush, green grass everywhere but our yard is way too big. The sun makes it crunchy.
According to my mother putting mulch in a garden will cause ants to fester. Huh? Maybe I'm behind the times but I've never known mulch to cause ant problems. Is this true?
How old were you when you first got to cut grass? My oldest two (ages 8 and 10) are starting to cut more and more. The 10 year old started cutting last summer and this is the 8 year old's first year.
Can someone please explain to me why the tomato cages you can buy at the stores are so poorly designed? I HATE that whole "triangle" design because they do not stand up right for very long. Why hasn't someone invented a better tomato cage?
I saw a male Cardinal in one of my butterfly bushes yesterday. I looked closer and saw a nest with 4 baby birds inside. It will be fun watching them grow and finally leave the nest. I put some sunflower seeds in a feeder close by.
I am fed up with moles/voles. They have destroyed a large portion of my yard. They've eaten bulbs, roots and leave behind those pesky lumps everywhere. Anyone else dealt with these varmints?
I know these 'old fashioned' mowers have a name but I don't know the technical term. My mother-in-law is looking for one of these and has not been able to find one locally. Any idea where we can find one?
