Steering wheel moves 3-4" either way before tires move. I've checked the gear plate and gear on end of steering shaft. They look great (no wear). What could be causing this problem? Thanks in advance for your input.

Backed out of the garage. Pushed fender lever forward and it locked in position (CVT RS800) and can't move the lever at all. Mower creeps forward at a low speed. This is in a Craftsman Model #917.250831 46" cut. Please give advice as what to do. Thank you.
