Looking for advice re: purchasing a reliable lawn tractor

Kohler command twin with 2 cam housings? Never saw a Command twin with 2 cams. Only twin cam Kohler was the single Courage. It had an issue with cracking the block where the cylinder met the block because the top plate bolts worked loose. You might have had a twin Cam single cylinder Courage. I...

Boss was approached by Sears to do their warranty work. He was all hiped up do it I took a look at what they paid for warranty work and told him I would not work for that. We don't do Sear warranty work. They were going to pay about 1/3 of the time it would actually take or even less.

    Kohler head gaskets

Kohler warranty pays 1.8 Hours for both gaskets. Don't just replace the gaskets plane the heads as well. This is on verticle engines. Just did one that had to take the engine mounting bolts out and lift the engine up to get the muffler off. Clean up and all that 6 to 8 hours

Looking for advice re: purchasing a reliable lawn tractor

Kohler Command is the best single engine on the market. Too bad they quit making them. They just don't tear up. Biggest problem is carb issues and most of that is due to sitting with fuel in them too long gumming up the carb.

I don't see blown head gaskets on the Kawasakis or Kohler singles. Kawasaki has a valve train problem. Only see it on the older Kohler twins now.

Looking for advice re: purchasing a reliable lawn tractor

Both of the failures are due to a poorly designed engine. Nothing to support the end of the compression relief and too much space between the spacing of the head bolts in the valve train area. Though I see more cam failures than head gaskets. Still a bad design. Can't say too much for the Kohler...

    hydro-lock in a Kohler

Looks like it has a compression release due to parts break down. Take the valve cover off spark plug out and turn the engine over by hand. Watch the valves and see if the bottom valve bumps open just before TDC. If not it has a bad compression release.

    PRI-G Fuel Stabilizer

Worse problem generators have is gunked up carb from setting with old fuel in them. People buy one put fuel in it run it one time let it set until they need it again. Two or three years later they expect it just to start right up and run. LOL

    Oil flush?

You said old old Kawasaki engine if it is an FH series engine check the top main bearing to see if it is worn out. Turn the magnet on the flywheel away form the ignition coils and see if you can move the flywheel back and forth. Those old FH series engines had a tendency to wear the top main...

Hard Start Cub Cadet w/ Kohler Courage 20 hp

Those engines have a compression release on the cam gear. when you adjust the valves turn the engine over by hand and watch the vaves to see if the exhaust valve bumps open just before it hits tdc. If not the compression release is bad,

    Used oil

Coke does not produce smoke on burning: Coke burns with an almost smokeless flame and does not produce smoke during burning. So, there is lesser air pollution when coke is burnt as compared to when coal is burnt. That is why noonshiners use it to fire their stills.

    Best Hydrostatic Transmission???

A lot of the commercial mowers are going to Parker Torques pack one peice unit with oil drains in the pan and a cartrage type filter. It is a very good unit. Dixie Chopper uses them in their commercial Eagle and Black Hawk series and uses Hydro Gear in the Z2 units. They use the two piece units...

    Horse power on 735cc engines?

Craftsman use to be bad about listing hp of the engine different than the model no. of the mower have a Kohler that is a CV 20 that the mower said it was a 18.5
  36. H

    Horse power on 735cc engines?

Not that easy on some of those engines they limit the throttle opening with the lever on the carb throttle shaft. They may also be playing games with hp rating and just call it a different hp than it actually is. They can call it less hp and get by with it but not more hp.

Engine runs when bottle fed but draws no fuel through two different carbs.

Model spec and serial no of engine so we can look at what you have. Throwing a carb in an ultrasonic cleaner doesn't necessarly clean all the passages in the carb. Sometimes you have to run something through the orfices to clean them out. Honda has a good set of orfice cleaner but pricey.

Back firing and after firing at the same time.
