Hello L., That is uncommon, but not unheard of. Check for power with a test light, but also verify the grounds are good. Do you have to be in the seat for the safety switch to operate? Is the brake set?

If you unplug it and check resistance and get no reading the windings are open in the PTO clutch. You will need a new clutch assembly.

Does this model have a 2 wire pto clutch like most do?

Hello L., If you have a multimeter, Ohm the 2-pins going to the clutch with it disconnected from the chassis harness. If you don't get a resistance reading, the magnet windings are likely burnt. Is the air gap adjustable on that clutch design?

Hello C., Check the piercing spring at the end of the coil wire, it attaches to the plug that is covered by the boot. I have seen then wear loose in the end of the coil wire and cause problems like this. Some had this faulty design, and some did not.

Do you have the correct plug the engine calls for... not one that just fits. Parts stores are bad about giving out wrong plugs. A tired ignition coil is a very good possibility but try cleaning the magnet face on the flywheel to see if the condition improves. Magnets can be strange about rust...

Have you looked into Predator engines? They are a Chinese clone of the Honda engines in most cases.

I still have some older 2-stroke Ryobi stuff, and they have held up well over many seasons (longer than intended), but most parts have been discontinued. In more recent years, I think Ryobi steered its focus more towards battery operated tools.
