You are boiling the fuel in either the carb bowl or fuel line and it bubbles back into the tank on a gravity system. It is way too hot.

    44P777 Engine Pulley

I use a bearing separator and apply pressure to the end of the crank with it and then use an air hammer on the center bolt of the separator. Sometimes bends the pulley but always gets it off. Never had to use the oxy/acetylene wrench. When in doubt. Bigger hammer.

Never had any luck using a 3 jaw puller on sheet metal pulleys without bending them. I have used a bearing separator with an air hammer to get pulleys like that off.

Can't a single reason for the oil leak.

Had a customer once use some "miracle" high mileage oil treatment that ate up the paper crankcase gasket.

    Yawzya that's expensive.

Customer bought a new OEM kohler carb for close to $300 that didn't fix the problem. Brought it to me and found it had a one dead coil and the other one was intermittent.

    Stihl love/hate MS251C

I have a 361 clone and a 660 clone both running 195psi compression. If you don't use the compression release it breaks the starter pawls. Over 10:1 compression ratio. Dozens of tanks of regular gas through both. I have always wondered what the failure mode of 2 strokes is when a fuel with too...

    HM100 woes

Does it miss at idle? WOT? loaded? Unloaded? Sprayed brake kleen around the intake manifold? Will coil jump a 1/4" gap in air? I would hookup an online neon spark tester and remove the air cleaner and muffler. Start the engine and let it idle. If it is a spark problem it should be observable at...

    Stihl love/hate MS251C

Yeah it is one of those. Looks like they just took a non purge carb and fabricobbled a primer bulb to it. I didn't buy it as it is a dumpster reacue. Great little saw. I am the guy with 5 saws and doesn't burn wood. Wife likes to razz me about too many saws so I switched to having too many...

    Stihl love/hate MS251C

I have a 251c and it has the most ridiculous primer. It has a regular saw carb not designed for a purge bulb. The bulb pushes fuel into the carb fuel inlet and has a goofy bypass hose too. Only ever seen it on the 251c. The regular 251 doesn't have it.
  17. Hammermechanicman

    Stihl love/hate MS251C

The 251c has a different primer system than other saws. The bulb is not a purge bulb. It pushes fuel into the fuel inlet of the carb. If you pump it too much you can pop off the metering needle and flood the engine. Only pump the bulb a couple times and then only pull the rope twice with the...

    The frozen whelk thread

The real fun is when you need to replace the seals on the wheel and tine shafts of a troy bilt tiller and the wheels and tines haven't been off for 20 years. Spent an entire day on one just getting the wheels and tines off without destroying anything.

If it is one of those MTD ones with no key and flat on the axle and a bolt in the center I use a bolt with a dimple drilled into it for the air chisel and I wedge a 2x4 behind the wheel and then use a real good air chisel with 175psi of air. They come off.

My 660 clone normally wears a Tsumura lightweight 25" bar which is manageable. I guess I thought I was Macho Man Randy Savage and bought a standard 36" bar for it. Bar and chain selection

Different saws have different bar mounts. Brand A saw may use a 3/8 .050 72DL chain and brand B saw may take the same chain but the bar mount is different. Brand of saw determines the bar. Clutch rim or spur sprocket determines pitch. Bar determines gauge and number of drive links.

    Starter problem rzt 50 183649 17ba5a7p712

I believe that mower uses the 725-04232 switch for the brake. The switch snaps into a cutout and is non adjustable and the switch is fairly expensive. They are prone to not having the plunger pushed in far enough when the brake is applied. Wiggle the brake lever and see if it starts. If it does...
