NO... when adjusting the cable IF you have a SINGLE lever for throttle AND choke...FULL fwd is the CHOKE position.. pulling back to the detent is FULL throttle .. when cold starting push the lever FULL fwd. to use choke, when engine fires move throttle BACK past the detent to about half...

Dave you only need a piece of 12 or 14 guage wire, for the extra solenoid "ground wire" .. I attached mine to my throttle bracket assy.

Also this is my GROUND wire connection point, back to my solenoid base .....

In above pic .. push your throttle lever on the dash, full fwd. loosen the screw on the throttle cable that's on the engine bracket, now move the white plastic throttle cable mount ( by pushing with your fingers ) you will see the CHOKE linkage arm ( top of bracket, the end is a loop ) and main...

I have 3 Murray mowers ( had 3 front engine riders) as Bert said the BRAKE safety, is under the RIGHT foot floorboard, the PTO ( blade engage switch) is inside the dash console ( hard to see without a light ) attached to the lever mechanism, the neutral switch is located UNDER the BATTERY BOX...

HERE's your wiring diagram, check out your harness, make sure you have the CORRECT ignition switch for YOUR model,and see what you come up with, could be a bad safety switch, or even a loose wire, DOUBLE check ALL your ground wires, make sure all wires are snug, and no cuts in the insulation...

You said it was running OK at first, but leaking fuel, BEFORE you cleaned the carb, so it appears the carb is your issue, please post the engine Model info. ( usually found right on the engine ) so we can determine which carb we're discussing, ( see example ) .....

After re-reading your post and checking the pic AGAIN, you mentioned a HOLE in the carb, there should be a welch-plug in there, or are you just seeing the indentation where the plug is installed, you would get a better look by removing that bolt,see enclosed pic .........

Looking at your pic it appears the carb to intake manifold GASKET is leaking, try installing a new gasket, and be sure you snug it up real good, it may solve that issue....... DO NOT overtighten it's a plastic manifold. I THINK the p/n for the gasket is 692137, (that's the NON-restrictor...

Check the springs on the brake-rod to the caliper on the trans, and sometimes the caliper gets stuck, this info may OR may NOT apply to YOUR machine since you FAILED to supply us enough info about your machine, see example .......

You said you replaced the BATTERY, ... did you install the NEGATIVE terminal to a cable (usually BLACK) that goes to the frame of the machine ?? The POSITIVE (usually RED) cable should go to one of the LARGER terminals on the starter solenoid. Now lets get your machines model numbers, should...
