UPDATE: Spec help for Timecutter SS5000

With the EZT, all that’s needed is a fluid change. Most owners don’t even do that. If the owner isn’t mechanically inclined and know the process, opening up the unit could have consequences. https://www.hydro-gear.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/BLN-52622_2100_2200_P13.pdf

My zero turn makes my shoulders ache

As @berstmobile1 said: “The Great Danes I service have wonderful lap bars that you can comfortably hold in one hand as they sit less than 1/2" apart and can be adjusted low enough to touch your thighs” My Gravely Pro Turn 260 has a similar steering arm setup as the now defunct Great Dane...

Deck belt broken w/ .6 hrs on new machine

It probably hasn’t changed. Refer to the owners manual to confirm. There should be a belt routing diagram on your deck. Make sure all of the pulley bolts are tight. The tension pulley assembly should move freely and and not flop around.

Scag caster wheels not level with each other

You are halfway there. Do the tires have the same size stamped on both? Are the tires from the same manufacturer? Those things are important. If they are from the same manufacturer and are stamped the same, there is something that you can try. Remove the smaller wheel assembly and pump it up to...

ZT Elite with Kawasaki engine, 5 yrs old, 2000 hrs.

It sounds like fuel delivery issues. Check fuel lines in the tank. Check the 90 degree fittings at tank. Check lines between tank and fuel pump. If there is an on/off tank selector valve, make sure it’s clear and functional. You might have to remove the tank and clean it. Confirm that the fuel...

Deck belt broken w/ .6 hrs on new machine

It’s always possible to have a bad pulley or spindle from the factory. With the belt off of the machine, check the pulleys and spindles. They should turn freely. Look for bad spots on all of the pulleys. Any problems and you will need to visit the nearest authorized repair shop. I always like to...

    Check Your New Mowers

Correct! You don’t want trash sucked into the engine. Yesterday was my first mow after the adjustments. The performance was much better. It powered through the thick Common Bermuda really well. The grass discharge was farther. And, not a single seed head of Bahia grass was left standing. I was...

    Z540m Deck Wheel Bracket ?

There’s your answer. 3/4” off of the ground at 3” is too low. Raise those anti-scalp wheels. The bottom hole is when you are cutting at the highest deck setting. With the deck set at 3”, the anti-scalp wheels should be about 2 1/2” off of the ground. The anti-scalp wheels are to prevent the deck...

    Steering Arm Adjustment

The first thing that you need to do is consult your owners manual. Being new, the steering lever action will loosen up. The tracking is most important. Both wheels should turn at the same speed and the mower should not creep in neutral. Like @Tiger Small Engine said, a pipe can help with...

    X500 stops after 10-15 minutes

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem. It could be trash in the fuel. The fuel tank pickup lines could be deteriorating. It could be trash getting hung up in the 90 elbow coming from the tank. It could be trash in the tank shutoff valve, if you have dual tanks. Trash in the carburetor bowl or fuel...

    Check Your New Mowers

Thanks @StarTech! I wouldn’t think that Gravely would set the WOT RPMs any different on the Kohler ZT740 than the Kawasaki FX850V. The blade tip speeds should match across the Pro Turn 260 models. The engine may have been set to the 7000 series specifications before it left the Kohler factory...

    Check Your New Mowers

I asked my Gravely dealer specifically to check the no load full throttle and idle speed. I don’t think it was done. I suspected the WOT speed was low. I have some Common Bermuda Grass over my septic drain field. It’s really thick and I’ve noticed the engine wasn’t performing as it should. When...

    Check Your New Mowers

Before I made the adjustment, I contacted Ariens customer service to confirm. The idle speed is set exactly as the same as the KT740. This idle speed was noted in the ZT740 service manual. It could have something to do with the engine application. The KT740 is usually mounted on residential...

    Check Your New Mowers

I assumed that my Gravely dealer checked the low idle RPMs and no load WOT RPMs before I took delivery. I specifically told them I wanted it checked before my purchase. I sensed that it wasn’t set right. I finally got around to checking it. Sure enough, WOT was below 3,400 RPM at no load. I...

    My porch pirate

I advise against doggie doors. Rabies is carried by a lot of critters. I also would not keep pet food around the outside of the house. Feeding the critters makes them lazy and discourages them from doing their job in nature.

    Check Your New Mowers

It’s a good idea to check the engine speed of any new mower. There are occasions when the mower’s engine speed is not set to the manufacturers specifications. You can have the dealer verify the full throttle RPMs before taking delivery.

    Scag 483317 – Eliminator blade

I haven’t. Although, I have used the Oregon Gator G3 and G6 and Rotary Copperhead Mulchers. They do reasonably well on leaves. I had to make several passes over the leaves to get the desired results. I have found that the toothed mulching blades aren’t very good on grass with high moisture...

    Timecutter Maintenance Extras

One of the best things that you can do is to blow off the engine really good with a leaf blower or air compressor after each use. This should be done before any water touches the machine. This helps to prevent the buildup of dust grass around the engine cooling fins. Once a year, remove the...

A carbureted engine is much easier to diagnose and fix. An EFI engine has sensors, a CPU and other things to deal with. Think of it as being like the early throttle body fuel injected automobiles. A scan tool is needed to diagnose. There are codes stored in the CPU. Some manufacturers use a...

TimeCutter 42" From Lawnmower to Brush Hog? Will it work?

The Timecutter is probably a poor choice for your particular situation. You have snow. ✔️ You have tall weedy grass. ✔️ A compact tractor with a 5’ bush hog and front loader would make more sense.
