Looking for advice re: purchasing a reliable lawn tractor

I would suggest EGo over Ryobi. Ryobi electrics appear to be rebranded Greenworks. EGo uses one battery mount for everything, string trimmers, chainsaws, push mowers, and zero turn riders. If unused for 30 days an EGo battery will magically self-discharge to 50% (on purpose) to protect itself...

Gas Caps do seal out any condensation from entering the gas tank, despite the arguments here saying they do not

I can't read 6 pages of this thread. Small engine gas caps breathe. Necessary to let air in when gasoline is used by the engine. When temperature changes some air in the tank leaves when it warms, fresh air enters when it cools. Ethanol in the gasoline extracts moisture from the air in the...

    Oil Recommended

There are no industry certification performance specifications for an oil to be sold as synthetic. Synthetic or refined, they are tested the same specifications and certifications. The rest is marketing. A superior motor oil can be made using synthetic processes but the use of synthetic...

Engine oil for Honda HRN 216 VKA Push Mower

Long ago I had one of the last Homelite 21" SP mowers with cast aluminum deck and about 4.5 HP B&S engine. 1988 I believe. Purchased from Monkey Wards just as the business was collapsing. The oil fill/check was a long tube and dipstick. With fresh oil and oil splashed up the tube (especially...

Engine oil for Honda HRN 216 VKA Push Mower

You don’t get the same oil regardless of brand name. There are few manufacturers of base oil, but that alone does not meet SAE/API specs. There are also manufacturers of the additives necessary to make a complete SAE/API certification. Each brand decides what use. The SAE/API certification...

Battery powered Weed Eater, Which voltage is preferred or has an advantage?

Voltage is almost irrelevant. Manufacturers use voltage to coax consumers into paying more. "Bigger numbers must be better! Right? After all the higher voltage tools cost more!" The higher voltage tools cost more because manufacturers decided to make more expensive tools, and use higher voltage...

Mulching blades that can still actually lift grass?

Best mulcher I have used was my first, a Husqvarna SP that was purpose made for mulching. It had a donut deck, high and rounded. The single blade had a lip for lifting the grass at the tips and another inboard to blow the clippings down. Clippings up on the perimeter, down in the center, deck...

    Mower decks Preventative rust protection

I have been tempted to use an automotive ceramic "wax" under the deck of mowers to keep grass from sticking. Don't know how long the coating would last under abrasive conditions. When I bought a plastic EGo mower I used a Turtle Wax plastic treatment I have used on my motorcycle. It held up...

Can't find 30W oil anywhere in my area, or on line.

10W-30 is thinner than 30 weight at room temperature but the same at 212°F, at which point it is even thinner. In ancient times we knew some engines simply burned one brand of 10W-40 and others not. And some engines were happy with that oil, but others not. It was simply a matter of trial and...

Can't find 30W oil anywhere in my area, or on line.

No one has found a "30W" oil yet. All you are finding is "SAE 30 HD" because 30W only exists in Google who returns links to "SAE 30" products.

Can't find 30W oil anywhere in my area, or on line.

Furthermore there is no performance specification for which a motor oil must meet to be sold as "synthetic". In other words, no assurance a synthetic motor oil is better than a refined oil. No requirement for a synthetic to be as good or better.

Can't find 30W oil anywhere in my area, or on line.

Just because vendors don't know what it is called and Google finds it doesn't make it so. The manufacturer knows and none of the products returned in the search say "30W" on the package. Is "SAE 30", often said to be "Straight Weight" to differentiate from 10W-30 and other multi-viscosity oils...

Will spread grass blades over grass helps lawn or just bagging them is good?

Mulching is good, but if you cut too short or wait too long with tall grass the mulching deck will clump. Clumping is bad wether mulching or not. I have mulched for decades with self-propelled push mowers. Recently stared using a Country Clipper zero-turn and decided to give the stock deck a...

Once Upon A Time so-called "diesel oils" were HDFOs, Heavy Duty Fleet Oils. To simplify things for fleet managers one oil suitable for diesel, gasoline, and many transmissions/gearboxes was formulated. Fleet managers watch costs closely, including time between overhauls. HDFO vendors had to...

I have never ever ever seen a "30W" oil. None of the links provided go to a "30W" oil, no matter Amazon's ignorant description writers often say so. Look at the product pictures "SAE 30" no W. That is not strictly true. The current draw to maintain a segment is very very low, but very very real. You are correct the current is higher to change a segment than to hold it. Best Oil To Use For Kawasaki

"Almost every..." Hydraulic lifters slide on camshaft same as "solid" lifters. Vs the use of a roller lifter which costs more than a solid bucket. A roller lifter is essential on high lift cam lobes. Essential for high spring rates due to the added force against the cam lobe. But many hot rod...

Best Oil To Use For Kawasaki

I didn't say that. I said, "high lift hot rod engines with solid lifters". Big difference. Almost every automobile on the road has solid lifters, even those with hydraulic lifters. But go to high lift and high spring rates for high RPM, the pressure on the camshaft is increased beyond what a...

That I have seen (not knowing your specific model) LCD hour meters are internally powered. The display stays on all the time even when all wires are disconnected. Best Oil To Use For Kawasaki

ZDDP only protects when the oil film fails. High lift cam shafts in hot rods which do not use roller lifters need ZDDP oil changed every 1500 miles because the ZDDP is consumed in contact. So what I am saying is an engine which requires ZDDP oil is defective in design.

Exmark Laser Z - No power - feels like no spark advance

I totally disagree with your conclusion. Ethanol stays in gasoline until too much water pulls it out. Not the other way around. This is how we test for presence of ethanol: add water, shake it up, and if the “water” level rises then ethanol was drawn out of the gasoline.

    Is an EGO better?

I briefly owned a new but unimpressive Toro Recycler. I have happily used an EGo 21" SP since 2016. No other poster on this thread has used an electric. You are not going to shave your thick grass with any mower if the grass is very tall. The solution is to knock an inch or two off at a time...

What was wrong with this mower?

NGK = No Good in Kawasaki. Yes, I agree NGK makes good product. In 10 years with that mower I didn't experiment with other brands of sparkplugs, I should have. Honestly blame the ignition on the Kawasaki not the plug. Yet bought a zero-turn recently specifically with a Kawasaki engine.

    Tire pops off the rim

So how much tear of the cords before the rubber holding air separates and lets the air out? I don't think it can be much. A tube will not keep a tire on the rim if it is "stretched" (if stretching is even possible) because the stretched tire no longer fits the rim. The O.P. needs new tires.

What was wrong with this mower?

Mid 1990s I had a Kawasaki engine on a John Deere 21" SP that did the same sort of thing. A new NGK spark plug would last 2 years, not 3. Sparked outside the engine but would not run. IIRC it would more likely start cold than restart hot. Once running it stayed running.

    Weed Eating Secrets Please.

I find a shoulder strap helps hold the trimmer and to maintain a semi-constant cut height. If you don't mind throwing money at the problem an EGo battery-electric mower with plastic deck weighs half or less than a metal deck gas mower. It will mow 45 - 75 minutes on one charge.

T6 recently lost it's API gasoline engine S rating. The old T6 was a fantastic "fleet oil", equally good for gasoline and diesel engines. The new is not. Hours on a mower

I haven't seen it on TV but I will agree detergent motor oils will keep an engine clean, probably not do much to clean a dirty engine.
