My mountfield quantum xm 35, with a Briggs and stratton engine and a non-attached choke spring!!

I have a old-ish lawnmower that kept stalling, so I took the carburettor out and gave it a really good clean, it runs a lot better now. Though it only seems to run on the choke, it may be something to do with the spare spring I have. Any idea where it goes? View of carb 1; Veiw of carb 2...
