    Briggs 422707 opposed twin carb

I don't know if it is possible, but you might consider changing the main jet over from the original carburetor to the aftermarket one and see if that helps.

    Hill climbing question

I think you are pushing the design limitations of the transmission and possibly the drive belt is also slipping a little from a weak tension spring.

    Briggs 422707 opposed twin carb

Do you understand that these aftermarket carburetors are not a direct replacement, they are made to fit multiple applications? The B&S opposed twin engine was used on all kinds of different equipment applications. The two bowl vents drilled in the top of the carburetor cover are so a variety...

    Encore Blows Fuse

Are you sure the new switch has the same letter ID at the pins and the old one that was on the machine? I've seen wrong switches before. They often look the same on the outside but are different internally. If this model has a fuel anti-backfire solenoid, check the wiring for it carefully, then...

    Briggs 422707 opposed twin carb

Hello C., What does to top of the original carburetor, where the air cleaner mounts look like? The 3 larger holes on top are threaded to mount the air cleaner base. The small hole is just a fuel bowl vent. That hole should always be open and line up with the top of the carburetor vent. From...

    GGP 452 engine loses power

I've dealt with quite a few this year that had debris sticking in the fuel pickup tubes and fuel lines. The pickup tubes & lines had to be blown clear with shop air or replaced. Grass clippings, dust and/or debris/water from a dirty fuel can often takes years to build up in a fuel tank and then...

Briggs and Stratton Intek v-twin 20hp

The harness has to be removed from the engine and the diodes uncovered/exposed to test each with an Ohm meter. When people (DIY and mechanics both) do not understand diodes and testing with a meter, that's when problems happen. I know many self-proclaimed "small engine mechanics" who know...

Starting fluid spraying back out of air filter

Hello F., Can you provide the information that is etched/engraved into the flat side of the engine block? It will be on the side opposite of the carburetor and fuel tank. The number you provided is for a Toro Recycler mower chassis; the engine is made by Briggs and Stratton.

    GGP 452 engine loses power

Welcome newbie, Can you provide the product label information off of the machine and the label information off of the engine? I do not like guessing and searching the internet for hours. Is this a Gravely with a Mountfield engine? Is this a V-twin engine and possibly one cylinder is not...

    Briggs and Stratton parts

If you buy B&S only for parts like this, you are paying for the marketing and packaging. All of the electrical components are purchased from outside suppliers and put in B&S packaging. I have used mostly eBay parts for many years as long as I could find them on there. Another good source is...

Lazer Z with Kohler Command Pro 26 EFI

This reads like many of the automotive diagnostic code flow charts that I have worked with for years. Many of the fuel injected ATVs and side by side vehicles are similar except they of refer you to use their manufacturers specified specialty scanners.

    E 15 Gasoliine

Hello M., Ethanol comes from cheap commodity crops that are easy to refine. They thin the real gasoline and pocket the profits. The phrase "Buy low and sell high" come to mind here.

Briggs and Stratton Intek v-twin 20hp

I've seen many wasted parts thrown at equipment because of these inline diodes hiding in the harness. Not every manufacturer uses them and some only use them on certain models.
  15. A

Briggs and Stratton Intek v-twin 20hp

Inline diodes are like an electrical "check valve". They are made to allow current to only flow one way. The problem begins slowly with age, vibration and heat. The diodes will develop stress cracks and begin to leak current the wrong way. This is where ignition coils start feeding back on each...

    coleman powermate 1850 model pm0401853.02 won't start

I have been a mechanic, technician and instructor for most of my career, and I cannot begin to tell you how many times equipment has lied when testing. In my career, I've probably thrown away more testers than most people have ever owned due to false results that sent me in circles. When it...

    Blade alternative

Hello B., It is an interesting concept but not practical or realistic. Stick with the steel blades. A tractor driven rotary finish cutter has way too much torque for string trimmer line. Even if you could find a way to adapt a string trimmer line adapter to each spindle, you would be stopping...

Troy Bilt Horse XP Lawn Tractor [13YX79KT011] Parking Brake Help

Hello C., That play is a result of age and wear. When new they have a snug fit on the splines. A new disc would fit better, but I don't see the importance or need for a new one. The brake is not utilized that much except for hold the machine when parked and the clutch/brake pedal is locked...

Drop box wants a person to sign up and I'm not down with that. As for the brake, tighten the center nut on the apply bracket a quarter of a turn at a time and see how the brakes act. The stopping brake and park brake are the same mechanism on most of these. The pedal lock is what holds the...

    need a replacement engine for a ZT2352T

Try eBay. They show several used Kohler 23hp engines. I suggest going with a Kohler Command instead of a Kohler Courage if given a choice. The crankshaft dimensions is the most important factor, and they should be the same.

Anyone know what this part is?

Looks like a piece of automotive style edging trim called "edge welting". This stuff was used to cover welded panel edges on many older vehicles. It was also use in some machine applications to prevent people from being cut on metal edges from welded seams.

Kohler SV-601 - Fresh soot around crankcase closure plate

Hello G., Many people understand what happens inside the engine cylinder above the piston but never think of what happens below the piston inside the crankcase. Without a crankcase breather system, the displaced air inside the crankcase would build pressure and force air and oil out of every...

    E 15 Gasoliine

Hello G., It's the world's petroleum manufacturer's thinning out the gasoline fuel mix to make more profit per liter/gallon. Ethanol blended fuel has never been good for anything with an aluminum carburetor or regular steel fuel lines, because it attracts moisture from the air. This moisture...

Briggs and Stratton Intek v-twin 20hp

If the valves appear to be opening about the same and it is cranking good, the camshaft is likely okay. I mentioned it because I've had them wear the lobes down before.

Briggs and Stratton Intek v-twin 20hp

When you adjusted the valves did you notice if the exhaust valves were not opening as much as the intake valves? Late or lazy exhaust valve opening is a sign of a worn camshaft. Late exhaust valve opening will also contribute to the initial problem you described of popping back in the intake...

Briggs and Stratton Intek v-twin 20hp

I think the "140psi" on both cylinders number is fictitious or the gauge is broken. Was this cranking psi? The starter does not spin fast enough for that reading even with the throttle wide open.

Kohler SV-601 - Fresh soot around crankcase closure plate

A drop of red Loctite on cleaned bolt threads will help keep them from loosening. If they keep coming loose the main block will develop a stress crack and that would not be good.

Kohler CH18S Spec #62513 Simplicity Sovereign

The fuse holder is usually in machine harness and not on the engine. Here is a diagram of a similar model I found online through parts tree. Item 33 show to be a circuit breaker instead of a fuse. Circuit breaker on models like this do get rusty inside and act up with age. You can try jumping...

Do I actually need a blade balance?

Hello B., The balancer you show is far better than any screwdriver or nail "trick" that people try to use. Good blade balance prolongs the spindle bearings lifespan. On a push/ walk behind mower, it reduces operating vibration that is transmitted into the handle of the mower. Many years ago...

Do I actually need a blade balance?

Hello ILENGINE, Rotary cutter swing blades like used on field shredders are better off removed and ground and then weighed. If you get the weight withing a couple of ounces on each blade, that is considered balanced. If the blades are just plain beat to death from rocks, replace them.

Briggs and Stratton Intek v-twin 20hp

They are made/ soldered into the harness. I think Teryll Fixes all has a video indicating how to replace them. Most of the time I just look up the harness using the engine information and order a new engine coil kill wire harness segment. A V-twin engine will have 2 tiny diodes in the coil kill...

    Engine Lopping

The carburetor needs to be removed and properly cleaned. The air bleed system is partially blocked and not keeping a proper mixture balance, especially under load. I have no faith in aftermarket carburetors, so, if this one needs rebuilding invest in a kit,

    Honda GCV160 rebuild questions

I think these cylinders are Nicklsil coated cylinder, so do not hone. Stagger the rings so the gaps do not line up and use a large hose clamp lightly tightened with a narrow section from a plastic bottle to protect the rings. The piston and rings will slip right in with simple WD-40 spray. Run...

    hustler belt tension spring

Try a section of rubber hose that slides snuggly over the spring. I had a machine years ago that would break springs like you described until an engineer gave me that advice. I never had another problem after I did that. It has a protective and dampening effect.

Briggs and Stratton Intek v-twin 20hp

Hello C., One problem that is possible is the ignition coils kill wire because an inline diode is failing. The harness diodes fail with age. Usually, one of the cylinders will lose spark/fire intermittently. Eventually the problem becomes chronic.

Kohler SV-601 - Fresh soot around crankcase closure plate

Hello C., Hello H., I think this was found while cleaning the cooling fins. These are known as "bucket" motors because of the top closure plate design. This is not "soot" it is dirt that has collected onto oil migration due to weak assembly RTV sealing. Clean the area and tighten the bolts...
