It's interesting that it is sputtering on bumps. This may be a ridiculous suggestion, but have you checked the terminal connections on that new battery to assure they aren't slightly loose and that the connectors are clean. My suspicion is aroused because if it's not any of the other issues...

Steering wheels actually somewhat control the direction of the mowing path rather than just flipping around like casters on a desk chair. It has to help, unless off the ground, but not much!

I feel ya, bro. Yeah, the JD X-370 has ahydraulic lift and powersteering. Change af 50 hrs. and every 200 after that. I also change oil and filter frequently.👍🏻

I suspect you are largely correct, but after paying 6K for my mower, I'll go along with the schedule - especially oil and filter, tranny oil and filter and greasing. I've been crazy lucky with belts. I've only had a drive belt break once, and I've been on riders since 1993. Thanks for the input. 😁

Thanks! Makes perfect sense for you, but I would not want 28 gal. of gas setting around in my basement. I'll stick to occasional ethanol free and Stabil. If I mowed a big area I would consider it.

First rider I ever owned was a 1993 Craftsman 12 HP. with like 5 speeds and a manual shifter. I used it for so long that the shifter broke off and I got a new one and got a couple more years out of it. Finally, I gave it to my niece. They don't make them like that now! 🙂

Not fuel injected, and filter is just a garden variety, standard filter. Gas line too. I'm going to cut the line on either end of the filter nipples about 1/4 " and remove the filter. I have ordered a compatible filter for my engine which has shorter nipples and will be a much easier fit. Also...

Thanks all for your valued insight!!! Got a different filter coming and fuel line separator pliers. Trimming >or< 1/4 in. off each end of the line, a filter with shorter nipples and maybe a bit of dry silicone spray should do the trick. 😎

Thanks! I ordered a fuel filter this morning from those folks - one matched specifically to my Kawasaki 21.5 HP engine. Looks like the nipples are a little shorter. That, plus trimming 1/4 i N. or so from both line ends should be easier. Best, 2mgtm

Perhaps, if the tubular ends of the filter you recommend are even a bit smaller in circumference, I can just cut the line on either side of the filter, take it off and still have plenty of slack to hook in the new one. I really don’t want to get into removing the entire gas line. Sound okay?

VFP: There is a mechanical lift called a “Mojack” that allows you to raise the front of your mower up about 45 degrees. I have had one for a decade. However, as I posted before, especially if you have > an acre to mow, you just need a new mower. That one will drive you batty . . .

P.S. If you have hills that are fairly steep, as I do, I advise avoiding a zero turn. Then you're into rear engine again with all the weight pretty much in the rear, not to mention more$$.
