Thank you for the reply. Made sure tab was clean and grounded to coil frame, then to engine block and then to battery negative.

My neighbor has a John Deere LX255 with 15hp Kohler that won't shut off. Removed shroud and ran engine. Grounded tab on coil to ground and stayed running. Tried another coil. Did the same thing. Anyone ever see this before? Thanks for any help.

I eneded up removing the brakes and cleaning the contact area of the pivot and applying anti-seize. I aligned the brake pads so they contacted the pullies squarely. Works fine now. Thanks to everyone for your responses.

I think I have it fixed. I took apart brakes and cleaned and applied anti-seize to area between deck and brake bracket. Also adjusted brakes so they hit squarely on pulleys. Thanks for all the help.

Thank you Thanks for your reply. This is the third belt. All are genuine John Deere belts. When I start it up belt is fine. No noise. Sometimes it starts to make the noise and tries to turn.
