Snapper Loose wire

Hi Everyone

My snapper 12.5hp briggs stopped starting with the key pull starts fine. I found a loose black wire near the starter that went into a connector with a white and red wire. Could this cause my starting issue? If so can I just remove the connector and crimp the three wires together?

From the picture, that looks like a ground wire for the starter. It probably is not supposed to connect to the other two. It looks cut off, not frayed. Got any other loose wires around there?

Looks like another DIYer done job. Don't even have the proper wire connector. And wire on one looks like it just shoved into the terminal socket. Looks more rigged than anything.

As for crimping all three wire don't less you want to fry things. The black is AC and red with lump is DC.

A shop like mine would have the necessary terminals and connector housings along the proper crimping tool. They also have the correct terminal release tool on hand.. You don't to use any run of the mill crimper to crimp open barrel terminals

thanks for the responses, I bought the mower last fall and it started and ran fine untill today I started it and backed out of the garage turned it off then tried to start it a few minutes later and there was nothing. will look for other loose wires, don't know if the connecter was replaced but when I pulled the red wire out of it did have a metal crimp around it.

Will need the mower model to look up a wiring schematic.

But as for the stator to engine, these are the parts that should been including the ones that are there.
