Tire Changer

Tires on small wheels are a royal pain to take off or put on, with or without a tire changer. No matter what you use, heat is your best friend. Leave them in the sun on a hot day. Better yet, put them in a pot of boiling water and simmer for five minutes. Boiling water can’t get hotter than 212° at sea level, absent a pressure cooker. So you can’t hurt a tire doing this.

Best advice ^ ……….. I have also inserted a tube to "stretch out" the tire.

I made one (several) to break down the bead for the 4, 6 and 8 inch dia front rims, especially the deep dish 8 inch rims. Some of the smaller ones I just use a 8 inch bench vise.
Just general hint. (I have a cutting torch and welder)
I took a 1/4 inch thick steel plate and for the 8 inch cut a round hole in the plate 1/4 inch larger than the rim and then welded 12 gauge 1 inch square tubing platform on top so I can press down and break the bead loose from the rim. Have to sometimes use lube when 1st pressing and then just let the tire set with force applied.
I can either use a hydraulic jack press or a Hi-Lift jack. I'm quite often changing tires or installing tubes on my own equipment.
If you are doing lots of them just go to a tire shop. Some of the deep dish 8 inch rims are hard to break the bead, especially if they have been run with fix a flat and the rim is rusty. A HF type manual bead breaker will not get er dun.
I also made same for some of the 12 inch dia that center hole won't mount in my tire changer.
For the 12inch press I think I cut the middle out of a 13 inch rim.

They have one where I use to work and it made it really easy to change. Only problem is airing them up. I could take them there and change them, but it is an hour drive one way.
